ILLINOIS VALLEY
Demonstration Held
By RUTH RAUSCH
Cave Junction The Illinois
Valley HEU met Tuesday at
the Episcopal church with a
potluck lunch. Cake decorat
ing was demonstrated by Mrs,
Kenneth Brown and Mrs
Fred Salvage. It was an
nounced the tailoring project
would be started in January.
A report on visiting the muse
um at Jacksonville was given
by Mrs. Les Basham.
Last week was a full one
for the Alton Sowells with
three days spent in Arcada
and Eureka, Calif., visiting
Mrs. Sowell's parents, the
John C. Rossiters in Arcada
and with her sister and fam
ily in Eureka. Mr. and Mrs
Ted McCall.
After returning home,
Sowell obtained a permit to
burn off some brush on the
back of their property. As so
often happens, a breeze blew
up, sending the fire out of
control and burned about an
acre of the Sowell place and
about two acres of the adjoin
ing Don Orton property. The
state department and the Cave
Junction rig of the Illinois
Valley Rural Fire Protection
were called. The fire caused
no damage, burning off brush
and slashings on both prop
erties. -
