Ford To Show '59 Cars Friday Detroit - (OPD - The 1959 Fords, designed to recapture the popularity of the com pany's 1957 models, will go on display in dealer show rooms Friday. The 1959 cars will feature greater economy through the use of regular gasoline and a return to "dignified, elegant styling in contrast to gaudt ness and extremism" shown in the 1958 Fords. Ford has reduced the horse power in its smallest V-8 en gine to 200, a drop of 5 horse power from last year. It boasts better perform ance in the normal driving ranges, from 30 to 70 miles an hour, despite the use of regular gasoline which it claims will save the driver $1 per tankful of 20 gallons. Styling of the new Fords takes on many features of the class design incorporated in its new four-passenger Thun derbird. It represents a sharp break with the styling of the 1958 Fords and a return to the design used in the 1957 Fords, the most popular Ford in re cent years. "The styling theme is good taste," said James O. Wright, Ford vice president and gen eral manager of the Ford Di vision. "It is a result of consumer demand for more elegance and dignity, as opposed to gaudi ness or extremism."
