Barge Grounded
Along Coast Freed
Florence (UPD The barge
Wainaku, stranded since Sept.
28 on a sandbar near here with
a load of packaged lumber,
was pulled free about 10:30
p.m. Saturday by the tugboat
Salvage Chief.
The barge, which grounded
when the tug Klihyam sank,
had carried 1,844,992 board
feet of lumber. About one mil
lion board feet was still intact
when the barge was refloated,
according to Sause Brothers,
owner of the barge. The rest
of the lumber was lost when
the barge was pulled free and
during the two weeks that it
took to move the carrier off
the bar.

Educated persons know
that, even in enlightened Eng
land, thousands of lonely and
crabbed old women suffering
from a senescent form of psy
chosis, were cruelly tortured
and then hanged as witches.
The ministers of the gospel
who used to approve of this
form of sadism were follow
ing the - injunction in the
Bible which says,-"Thou shalt
not suffer a witch to live"
(Exodus 22.18). ,Fortunately,
about a hundred years ago
people became so civilized
and sensible that they no
longer would believe all the

study, they urged that the law
be changed and made to con
form with modern medical

leaders in the Church of Eng
land favored the change, and
now I see in the papers that
the ministers at the Methodist
Conference at Newcastle on
Tyne approved the proposal
for a new law. Unfortunately,
according to the last I heard,
