Miss Larsen's marriage to Walter G. Garner, Medford business man, is set for November 1. The honored guest was presented fare well gifts during the afternoon. More than 200 guests attended the tea, including staff members, board members and members of Rogue Valley Memorial Hospital auxiliary, who assisted with the event. ' Work .of Medford Artists Selected for Annual Show Two Medford artists have had pieces accepted for ex hibit at the Artists of Ore gon 1958 showing of the Port land Art Museum, the muse um announced last week. Warren Wolf, art instruc tor at Medford High school, will show a wood and steel sculpture entitled "Experi ence at Sea," and an oil paint ing entitled "Despair." Betty M. Allen (Mrs. Eric Allen Jr.) will show two pieces of sculpture, "Paladin," in cast stone, and a wood and metal construction entitled "Proto." Both Mr. Wolf and Mrs. Allen are artists in the con temporary genre. Mr. Wolf has exhibited in the Oregon Artists show before, but this is the first time for Mrs. Al len, who began sculpturing seriously less than two years ago. A total of 134 pieces from 108 artists were admitted to the competitive exhibit, out of 348 pieces submitted by 190 Group Invited To Grants Pass Medford Lady Elks will be guests of the Grants Pass Lady Elks Tuesday, October 14, at the Grants Pass Elks temple. A luncheon will be served at 1 p.m. following a social hour from 12 noon until 1 o'clock. AH wives and widows of Elks are invited to attend. artists. The show was juried by a committee including Elmer Bischoff, San Fran cisco, Herman. Cherry, New York, and Frederick Heidel, Portland. The rules limited entries to no more than, three pieces from any artist, and no more than .two in either sculpture or painting. The show will be open to the public at the Portland Art Museum, S.W. Park and Madi son, from October 18 to No vember 16. - Reames Social Club Announces Luncheon 'Heames Social club will hold its regular monthly luncheon at 12 o'clock on Wednesday, October 15, at Medford Masonic hall. The business meeting will be followed by an 'afternoon of cards. All Eastern Star members are welcome to at tend. Mrs. Frank W. Little is chairman of the luncheon committee. 4 To Leave Mrs. Fred Fick, 502 North Holy street, Medford , will leave for Portland and Pasco, Wash., where she will visit friends and relatives for two weeks. In Pasco she plans to visit her v son - in - law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Miazga. Union President To Be Delegate; Meeting Planned ' Mrs. G. 0. Sanden, Old Stage road, will leave tomor row for Portland to attend the state convention of ,,the Women's Christian Temper ance of Oregon. Mrs. Sanden is president of the Medford Union. The convention dates are October 14-17. Speaker for the next meet ing of Medford , Woman's Christian Temperance Union will be the Rev. Escil Hiser whose topic will be "Temper ance." Mrs. Hiser will give the devotions and Mrs. Louise McCoy will sing. Time of the meeting is Thursday, October 18, at 2 p.m. at Girls Community club and the public is invited to attend. A roll call will be held and members are asked to re spond with a favorite verse of scripture. Refreshments c o m m ittee members are Mrs. Ina Renker, Mrs. Fred Reich and Mrs. Em ma Perkins. Royal Neighbors Set Homecoming Royal Neighbors of Amer ica will hold their annual homecoming dinner Thurs day, Oct. 16, at the Pythian hall. Serving will start at 6 p.m. A program will follow. The event was plan ned by the staff, with Mrs. Thomas D. MacLeod, head dietitian, as chairman. Mem bers of Rogue Valley Memori al Hospital auxiliary, of which Mrs. John Winton, Eagle Point, is president, assisted the staff. -More than 200 staff mem bers, auxiliary members and others attended the tea. Miss Larsen was presented a silver tray from the hospital staff, with Mrs. Bernice Nims, di rectors of nurses, making the presentation. Mrs. Winton pre sented the honored guest a silver bowl on behalf of auxiliary members. Among those pouring dur ing the afternoon were Miss Mabel Coffeen, Mrs. Fred Wil liams, Mrs. Myrtle Marsters, Mrs. Katherine Long, Mrs. Margaret Jacobs and Mrs. Frances Stein, all registered nurses on the staff. Flowers for the tea" table and room bouquets were pro vided by Mrs. Winton, Mrs. Alfred S. V. Carpenter and Mrs. Ralph Norris. During the presentation of the gifts, appreciation for Miss Larsen's work at the hospital was expressed, and regret over her departure. Class Director To Be Speaker - Karl Hayes, director of Jackson county's social ed ucation class held in the Tal ent school, will talk to the Jackson County Retired Teachers will be held Mon day, October 13, at 1:30 p.m. at Girls Community club. Mr. Hayes will tell of the work being done at the school for retarded children of the valley, and will show slides picturing some of the activi ties in the school. Chapter Holds Model Meeting A model meeting for rushees was held by Beta Up silon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi at the home of Mrs. How ard Blew October 7. ' "Let's Bake a Cake" was the program theme presented by Mrs. Max Larson, vice president of the chapter. Just as good ingredients are essential for a good cake, so are they for a good sorority, she said. It needs to be en riched with Service and cul ture and gaily spiced with social activities to turn out well, the speaker declared. Mrs. Larson was assisted in the program presentation by Mrs. Carl Christenson, Mrs. Joe Sayre and Mrs. Ray Bostwick. A preferential tea for rush ees will be October 19 at the home of Mrs. Scott Davis. ' The next regular meeting will be October 21 at the home of Mrs. DeVan Wray, 1908 Stratford way. Visitors Attend Bridge Session Five visitors attended the monthly master point play session of the Medford Dup licate Bridge club held rec ently. Thirteen tables of play ers participated in the event. Top scores in the north-soiith position were Mr. and Mrs. Leland Clark, first, 172; Mr. and Mrs. Berg Marten, second, 170; Mrs. Al Gilhousen and Roy Pruitt, third, 167; and Jack Harris and James Mor gan, fourth, 13812. She was crowned at the half time of the homecoming game by Ceptain Russell Beem. Queen Donna with her court, princesses Margo Hill and Carmel White, reigned over the- triumphant home coming dance held in the gay- ly decorated school gymnas ium, immediately following the team's 27-21 victory over the Glendale Pirates. The GAA served refresh ments. A large cake was dec- orated as a miniature football field complete with goal posts representing both schools. The senior class won the prize for its entry" in the homecoming parade staged along Main street Friday aft ernoon. ' The winning float was a life size sail boat carry ing several members of the Cougar squad forcing a Glen dale Pirate-to walk the plank The parade was led by the Illinois Valley Rockettes. 4 Auxiliary Plans Meeting Sunday The- auxiliary to Colonel Sargent camp, United Span ish War Veterans, will hold its first meeting of the 1958-1959 year, Sunday October 19, at Redman hall. A covered dish dinner will be served at 1 p.m, Members are requested to call the auxiliary president, Mrs. Bertha Nelson, concerning arrangements. Council . Of PTAs To Meet Post Motions' Club To Meet Wednesday Past Matrons club of Nevita chapter will hold its first fall meeting Wednesday, October 15, at the home of Mrs. D. W. Husband, 1297 Morrow road. A luncheon will be held at 12:30 p.m. followed by a busi ness meeting. A program of interest to parent- teacher association members throughout the copunty has been planned by the Jackson County Council of PTAs Wednesday, October 15 in the YMCA. A coffee hour will be from 9:45 to 10 A.M., with the program from 10 A.M. to 12 noon, according to Mrs. Owen A. Kunkel, Med ford, president. Angus L. Bowmer, profes sor of English at Southern Oregon College, Ashland, will present a brief background on "Shakespeare in the Rogue Valley." Mr. Bowmer is founder and producing direc tor of the Oregon Shakespear ean festival. With the pres entation of the 1958 plays, the entire canon of Shakespeare's plays has been produced in the Ashland theater. Dr. Harry Danielson, psy chiatrist for the Southern Oregon Child Guidance clinic, will present information con cerning the marriage counsel ling service now being con ducted on a six month demon stration basis in Jackson county. He will tell how the service came to be started, and how the service is determin ing whether there is a need for a permanent counselling serv ice to be set up in the county. 1 There will be an opportun ity for questions concerning problems in use of parliamen: tary procedure in the local PTA unit. Two workshops have been held recently in the home of Mrs. Kunkel, 28 Highland drive. The first was for mem bership chairmen, and was conducted by Mrs. Lewis Dusenberry, Trail coifnty membership chairman, Mrs. Kunkel and Mrs. William H. Seibert", Medford Coordinat ing Council president. The second was for the magazine chairmen and was conducted by Mrs. Walter Stroup, county magazine chairman, and ivirs Kunkel. These were the first of a se ries of workshops to be pre sented for local unit chairmen throughout this year. H Officers Named' By Hilltoppers; Announce Party Roma Rice was elected president of the Hilltoppers Square Dance club at their business meeting held Tues day.
