The Central Point Garden club met Oct. 1 at the home of Mrs. Joe Huffine, 369 West Second st. Cohostesses were Mrs. Ralph Hixon and Mrs. Robert L. Schmidt. Donald M. Frost, owner of Delta Pet and Nursery Ranch was guest speaker. His sub ject was "Origin of flowers m our gardens." He also con ducted a quiz contest. During the business meet ing, plans were completed for the dried material show Oct. 20 and 21 at the Jackson County Court House audito rium. The name chosen for the show was "Floral Beauty in Wintertime" (using dried material). Committees are Mrs. Gas ton Floux, general chairman; Mrs. Charles Ghelardi, guest book; Mrs. Walter Sutherland, publicity; Mrs. John Holmer, Mrs. Walter Sutherland, Mrs. Ralph Hixon and Mrs. Ever- Speech Clinics Held in Area Ashland Diagnostic speech clinics are currently being conducted throughout the area's schools in cooperation with the Southern Oregon college speech and hearing center, Leon C. Mulling, di rector, has announced. Mulling directed the atten tjpn of participating teachers, school administrators and public health nurses to the current schedule which be gan at Talent Oct. 2 and will terminate with the Elk-Trail meeting Nov. 20. The second clinics in the series were conducted at Pros pect and Butte Falls Oct. 9, he reported, adding that the next session was slated for Thursday, Oct. 16, at the How ard school at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, Curry county schools Gold Beach and Ophir will be visited, also at 9 a.m., with Jackson ville and Ruch students to be met with Thursday, Oct. 30, at 9 ajn. and 1 p.m., respec tively. R6gue River at 9:30 a.m., and the Grants Pass health department at 1 p.m. will host the next clinics, Thursday, Nov. 6, and a week later, on Thursday, Nov. 13, Lone Pine students and clinicians will meet at 9:30 a.m. followed by a clinic in the Griffin Creek school at 1 p.m. Mulling announced that the fall program would conclude with clinics in Shady Cove at 9:30 a.m.. Corsages were won by Mrs. Wally Day and Mrs. Pansey Sturgeon. Mrs. Donald E. Fa ber and Mrs. O. T. Wilson won the door prizes. Mrs. Karl Janouch and Miss Min nie White were guests. After the meeting, the group went to the home of Mrs. Claude Thompson on Scenic ave., where they toured the gar dens. The next meeting will be held Nov. 5 at the home of Mrs. L. C Gorden on Freeman rd. The West Side Home Exten sion Unit met Oct. 3 at the Central Point Grange hall on Pine st. The meeting began at noon with a potluck lunch eon. On the luncheon com mittee included Mrs. Nina Morgan and Mrs. Jean Ed wards. The project for the day was Christmas Craft. Demonstrations were given on shirt-m a k i n g, chjldrens toys, and tin can craft. Mrs. Leona Meyer, Mrs. Gloria Da zis and Mrs. Jocelyn Ross were project leaders. The next meeting will be held Nov. 6 at the Central Point Grange hall. There will be a potluck luncheon at noon. Project leaders will be Mrs. Virginia Russel and Mr. Blanch Motschenbacher. The subject will be "Improv ing yourself as a hostess." The Willow Springs Home Extension Unit met Sept. 23 at the home of Mrs. Russell Thompson on Lark lane. Twelve members were pres ent. Officers of the Willow Springs unit are Mrs. Russell Thompson, chairman; Mrs. Rinehold Boes, vice chairman; Mrs. Archie Purdy, secretary; and Mrs. George Davis, trea surer. The following committee chairmen were appointed: Mrs. Rinehold Boes, hospital ity; Mrs. Roy Colpitts, health; Mrs. Jean Savage, 4-H; Mrs. Ray Guss, publicity; Mrs. Marge Walters, safety; Mrs. Aura Kay, Azalea House; Mrs. Homer Jeffries, research; Mrs. Wayne Vincent, citizen ship; and Mrs. Kenneth Main waring, A.C.W.W. The next meeting will be Oct. 28 -at the home of Mrs. Rinehold Boes on Robin lane. The meeting will begin at 10:30 ajn. The project for the day will be Christmas Craft. Mrs. Ray Guss will give a demonstration on childrens toys. Mrs. Jean Savage will demonstrate tin can craft and Mrs. Marge Walters will have for her subject "shirt making." Salem Bus Union To Halt Picketing Salem - (LTD - Former drivers of City Transit Lines here said Thursday they would withdraw their pickets and "courtesy cars." -The union drivers estab lished pickets when the com pany hired non-uion drivers. Attorney Thomas Church ill, court appointed receiver of the bankrupt company, said the union agreed to stop picketing because the com pany is now being operated by him under court direction. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. V. Vincent of 323 Manzanita st., Central Point, are Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Vin cent of Independence, Ore. The two men are brothers and their wives are sisters. Also visiting at the Vincent home is their son, George Vincent, of Santa Maria, Calif. Mrs. Harry Tonn of 130 Ce dar st. was hostess for a birth day party recently honoring Mrs. S. H. Gay. Green and pink tapers and a centerpiece of pink asters were arranged on the beige lace covered table. Birthday cake and ice cream were serevd. Attending were Mrs. S. H. Gay, Mrs. C. Kinder and Mrs. Dell Kline of Medford. At tending from Central Point were Mrs. Anna Tonn, Mrs. H. P. Jewett, and Mrs. O. T. Wilson. Mrs. Sanford Rich ardson of Table Rock was also a guest. The Faith Circle and the Women's Christian Circle of the First Presbyterian church in Central Point will com bine their efforts to put on the cooked food and clothing sale Oct. 17 at the Gleason building on Pine St. Money raised from the sale will be used for the church. Sunday Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Wilson joined a group of relatives at Mr. and Mrs. Ern est Leavitt's cabin on Union Creek.
