Wife-Swapping Operation Really Quite Simple for Two California Families Upland, Calif. -UPD- To the world, things appeared a bit confused today at the homes of two aircraft workers who swapped wives, but to them it was quite simple, really. Morris Underwood, 37, now was living in the former home of his fellow worker, William Holloway, 40, who was living in Underwood's former home in nearby Montclair. Only the family pets were confused. Best of Friends The machinists switched houses, wives and children after their marriage in sepe- rate ceremonies last Friday at Las Vegas, Nev. The mate-swapping mar riage ended a relationship of several years during which the two couples wore identi cal clothing to dances and were the best of friends. Recently, the two couples gat down for a frank discus sion and decided that they really belonged, not to each other, but to the other's mate. They decided then to do something about it. Underwood took a leave of absence from Convair where he worked alongside Hollo way and went to establish six weeks residence preparatory to divorcing Dolores, 38, his wife of 16 years. Holioway's; wife of 21 years, Olive, 40, went along at the same time to establish residence to divorce her hus band. The couples shared the costs of the preparation. In the divorces Mrs. Un derwood was given custody of her three children, Donna, 13, Gail, 8 and Gregory, 7. Mrs. Holloway retained custody of her children, Donald, 17, San dra, 14 and Terrence, 8. A fourth child of the Hollo ways, Bill, 20, was not in volved in the marital negotia tions. Each wife was granted $30 weekly support. When arrangements were completed, Underwood mar ried Mrs. Holloway and Hollo way married Mrs. Underwood in separate ceremonies. They met briefly after the rites to congratulate each other. Then, Underwood moved into Holioway's house and Holloway moved into Under wood's house. Simple? This Tobacco Could Result in Disease Portsmouth, England -(UPD- Doctors who blame diseases on cigarettes might look at the pipe tobacco Frederick McMahon had on hand. Testimony in court Mon day showed pipe tobacco sold in McMahon's cigar store contained stained paper, met al foil, burned tobacco and dirt. McMahon was fined $70 for Conslrucfion Rig Crushes Workman Roseburg-0JPD - A Portland construction worker, Louis Andy Gebhart, 62, was killed instantly Monday when a large construction rig backed over him on the North Ump- qua highway about 25 miles east of here. Douglas County Coroner C. H. Babbitt said the wheel that crushed the man weigh ed seven tons. Gebhart was employed by C. H. Strong Co., of Eugene. possessing tobacco containing substances not authorized by customs. He said he made the tobacco by stripping down cigarettes that had been in his shop a long time. Tulelake Youth Accident Victim Woodland, Calif . -(UPD-William Best Jameson, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ole Jameson, Tulelake, died in Yolo General hospital here Monday of injuries suffered in a traffic accident Saturday night near here on High way 99. Jameson, a sophomore at the University of California at Davis, was born in Co quille, Ore.- Survivors, be sides his parents, include his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William E. Best of Riddle, Ore., and an aunt, Mrs. E. L. Jackson, Riverton, Ore. Funeral services are sched uled for 11 a.m. Thursday in Klamath Falls. 4-H CLUB NEWS Eagle Point Desert Pegasus - The Eagle Point Desert Pe gasus met Saturday, Oct. 4 at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dunn. This was the first meeting for the coming year. The meeting was called to order by last year's reporter, Jim Ackerman. Nominations were open for president. Juanita Zimmer lee and Harlen Stinson were nominated. Harlen was elect ed. Dale West and Carolyn Hackney were nominated for vice president. Dale was elect ed. Charlottle Zemmerlee and Jerry Rodgers were nominat ed for secretary. Jerry was elected. Carolyn Hackney was un animously elected reporter. Ways of raising funds for the spring horse show were discussed. A dance and pie social idea was brought up. British Serviceman Cyprus Ambush Victim Nicosia, Cyprus (UPD Gun men killed one British serv iceman and wounded two oth ers in an ambush attack on two army vehicles Monday night near the village of Spi lia in the central Cyprus Mountains. One of the gunmen, a Greek Cypriot, was killed when the bomb he was carrying exploded. GOP Candidate Attacks Benson Klamath Falls -(UPD-Marion T. Weatherford, Republican candidate for Congress from the second congressional dis trict, took issue with Secre tary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson while visiting the southern reaches of the sprawling district Monday. Weatherford said he dis agreed with Benson's ideas on acreage allotments and farm prices and with the sec retary's soil bank and flexible price supports theories. The Arlington wheat farmer said Benson did not listen to the producers and that farmers should not listen to Benson when he tells them they "never had it so good." The campaign swing was Weatherford's second around the 18-county district which is larger than the six New England states. He said he hadn't missed a town, even visiting Fort Rock in north ern Lake county, which is still without telephone service. Weatherford said' Oregon Technical Institute here should be strengthened and expand ed with Federal aid for which it is eligible "because of its outstanding progress in the nuclear field."
