Huddling Hunters Struck By Truck Meacham, Ore. -fl'PD- The hunting season got off to a rousing start for about 15 hunters gathered in the Ski Lodge cafe for a pre-hunt breakfast here yesterday. Grant H. Clawson, 18, a Murtaugh, Idaho, truck driv er, parked his tandem truck and trailer at a service sta tion and walked down a hill for breakfast in the cafe. Minutes later his truck fol lowed him, smashed into a pickup truck parked in front of the establishment and shoved it through the plate glass windows into the cafe. The counter was pushed up against the back wall. Paul Helgon, Boise, and James Capps, Pendleton, were hospitalized here but the others escaped serious injury.- Helgon suffered a leg and hip injury and Capps had neck cuts. Nearly 13 million persons have visited the Chicago Mu seum of Science and Industry in the past five years. Everett Braylon Dies In Hospital Everett Brayton, about 55, born and raised in Medford, died unexpectedly yesterday in a hospital in Sacramento, Calif. The news was reported here by a relative. With Brayton was his wife, Mrs. Helen Reddy Brayton. Brayton managed the Hol lywood Orchard here and lat er operated the Sliding Door restaurant. He was a member of the Elks club. RHOTEN Funeral services for James Howard Rhoten, 23, of Wimer, who died Wednesday, will be held at Hope Presbyterian church ih Rogue River, Mon day at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. D. F. Barnett will officiate. Committal will be in Wood ville cemetery. Rogue River, with Conger-Morris, funeral directors, in charge of ar rangements. Mr. Rhoten was born Jan. 19, 1935, in Medford. He had lived in Wimer for the past 12 years, and was a member of Hope Presbyterian church. He was married Oct. 2, 1954, in Rogue River, to Betty Lee Miller, who survives. Other survivors include a son, Carl L. Rhoten, at home; two brothers, Richard O. Rho ten, and Conley C. Rhoten, Wimer; a sister, Mrs. Donald Haynes, Medford; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Rhoten, Wimer; his grandmother, Mrs. Alice Richards, Beaverton, Ore., and one nephew. MRS. ALMA P. STANTON Funeral services for Mrs. Alma P. Stanton, 64, Black Oak drive, who died Oct. 3, will be held at Perl Funeral home oMnday at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. William Piper will officiate. Interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park. Mrs. Stanton was born in Illinois in 1878, and has lived in the community for the past two years. Mrs. Stanton is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Tom Man ning, Blakely, Ore.; five sons, Lee M. Scroeein. Eugene; Paul F. Scoggin, Sacramento; Howard R. Scroggin, Medford; Jess J. Scroggin, Lebanon; Harry O. Scroggin, Klamath Falls; one sister, Mrs. Dea Scroggin, Inglewood, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, including Mrs. Glen Schireman and Terry Scroggin of Medford; and 11 great grandchildren. John Charles Reeder, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Char les Reeder, route 1, box 291, Central- Point, has been awarded a certificate of ach ievement at the "outstanding Nati6nal Guard trainee" of his unit at Fort Ord, Calif. PHOENIX Trio To Take Phoenix Donald Wal lace, Lester Schleigh and Stanley Zwan left Sunday for Fort Ord, Calif., for a six month's training period in the Army reserves. Wallace is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Wallace, Sch leigh is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Schleigh and a graduate of Phoenix High school last spring, and Zwan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Zwan. SP'3 Lanny Zwan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Zwan, will leave Sunday for Fort Bliss, Texas, where he is stationed- as an instructor, after a few days visit with his fam ily. Lanny has one more year in the service before he will receive his discharge. . Mr. and Mrs. Don Blank enship have moved from Klamath Falls to West 2nd st. in Medford. Their parents are Mr. and Mcs. A. A. Blank- enship, now of Valsetz, Ore. and Mr. and Mrs.Clifford Sch leigh of Fern Valley rd. The elder Blankenships left the middle of September to make their home in Val setz where he is employed as a welder in the large lum ber mill there. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Maudlin and family of Crawfordsville, Ind., have rented the Ulank- enship home. They have lived in different places in Oregon and have now decided to make this their permanent home. Their three children are enrolled in Phoenix grade school. Harvev R. Bolen is recun- eratine in a Medford hospital after surgery last week. He expects to be home Tuesday or Wednesday. The Ralph and Wayne Hite families arrived home for the winter months from Anchor age, Alaska,' after working with a highway construction crew all spring and summer. They are at present at the home of their mother, Mrs. Georgia Smith. Robert Dale is the name chosen for the boy born to Mr, and Mrs. Roland Sher ritt. WATSON Shady Cove-Trail-Newcomers to Shady Cove are Mr. and Mrs. Peter Nashed of Eugene who are renting the Frank Fagalde home on Cra ter Lake highway. Nashed is a high school teacher at Prospect. He re ceived his masters degree from the University of Idaho and has been working on his higher degree at the Univer sity of Oregon. He was born in Cairo, Egypt, attended school and college in Beirut and taught in Egypt for one year before coming to Amer ica. Mrs. John Ruby recently returned to her home after being in Cottage Grove sev eral days with her daughter and son-in-law and family, Dr. and Mrs. Ivan Goodman. On her return trip she came by way of Diamond lake and was met there by another daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fay Unruh, and came home with them. Mr. and Mn. Wallace Reid of Burrell, Calif., are guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Orven Caster. Caster and Reid are Army buddies. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Po pow have moved their store merchandise into their new building at 114 S. Main st. They have twice as much floor space and are adding new lines and larger stock. Dr. ' Leland Pierson has opened a dental office in the Skinner building in the space formerly occupied by Jessie's Dress Shop. Dr. Pierson is a graduate of SOC and a recent graduate of the dental school in Portland. The family is living at 166 S. Main. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Chestnut are the parents of a baby boy, Kenneth Lee, born Sept.. 25 at the Rogue Valley hospital. Mrs. Winnie Price of Ba kersfield, Calif., has been a house guest of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Rodgers of Trail. Mrs. Rodgers recently returned from a trip north where she visited her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Steeves in Salem and another son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Steeves of Hood River. She also visited friends in Portland, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Dim woodie of Hayward, Calif., have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Williams of Shady Cove. The Williams and Dim woodies were neighbors for many years in Hayward. - Mrs. Jeanette Johnson of Shady Cove received word re cently of the death of her fa ther, Mitchell Decker,, of Spirit Lake, Ida., Sept. 23. He was killed in an auto acci dent. Another daughter, Mrs. Robert Franklin, of Grand Rapids, Mich., came out to Spirit Lake to attend the fu neral and then came to Shady Cove where she is visiting her mother, Mrs. Frances Miller, and sister, Mrs. Jeanette Johnson, and family. Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Bigelow and family of Greeley, Colo., have been visiting Bigelow's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Bigelow of ShadyCove. Mrs. Delbert Spain and Mrs. Dee Stockton of Shady Cove were hostesses for a surprise shower honoring Mrs. Mike Wood at her home Monday afternoon. Oliver of Trail are staying at the home of Oliver's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Reed in Central Point, and taking care of the place while the Reeds are on a trip to California. Calif., were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sanderson of Trail while on a vacation trip. Mrs. Ed Brown attended the volunteers - week end at Camp Low Echo held for all Girl Scout and Brownie lead ers. He is also completing a five, week course of leader training for Girl Scout work and a Troop is expected to be started in Shady Cove soon.
