10 MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Oregon, Friday, October 3, 1958 Caution Urged by Governor On Eve of Deer Hunt Seai Portland- (UPD - Upwards of 200.000 Oregon deer hunters, given a green light by Gov. Robert D. Holmes, take to the woods for the opening of the 1958 season Saturday. Several major timber com panies announced that be cause of the high fire danger their lands would be closed to hunters. This includes some 400.000 acres in the Willam ette valley, the coast and in southern Oregon. Gov. Holmes said the sea son would open on schedule but he cautioned hunters to be extremely careful in the woods, made dry again by re cent hot weather. The State Game commis sion described prospects gen erally as good. The season runs through Oct. 26. "We would like to see Johansson who is rated sec ond meet Folley, currently No. 1," said Fred J. Saddy, chairman of the NBA rating committee. "The outcome . . . would result in creating in terest in the heavyweight di vision and provide a rightful and undisputed challenger for the heavyweight title." Pope & Tal bot closed its Willamette val ley holdings to hunters. Crown Zellerbach closed the Clackamas tree farm and Wil son river tract of its Tilla mook tree farm. Carrasquel Goes To Oriole Club - Kansas City, Mo.-IUPD-The Athletics swapped shortstop Chico Carrasquel Thursday for Baltimore utility man Dick Williams ih a straight player deal. , Williams averaged .283 this past season and is an outfield er who also plays all three bases. Carrasquel, once out standing for the Chicago White Sox, batted only .234 for Kansas City this year. I , , .
