Dairy Group OKs Series of Bills Salem -UPB- The State Agri culture Department's dairy relations advisory committee Tuesday gave final approval to a series of proposed bills that would modify existing dairy laws. The proposed changes will be presented at a meeting of the board of directors of Ore gon dairy industries, Oregon dairy producers and north west retail ice cream manufac turers for study and approval. The meeting is planned ten tatively for Sept. 30. The advisory committee will recommend changes in laws relating to milk defini tion and standard of identity, breed milk, sampling of milk by milk tank truck drivers, frequency of sampling farm tank milk for butterfat test ing, frozen dessert licenses, city surveys and sanitation in spection of producers' farms. In order to give the depart ment authority to set up milk standards and labeling re quirements, the committee Rose City Transit To " Merge Several Lines Portland - (UPD - Rose City Transit Company, G e n e r a 1 Manager Raymond I. Perkins said Tuesday that the bus line hopes to eliminate 1,200 turn ing movements by merging several of its lines. He said some bus conges tion could be cut down if the City Council grants the com pany's request. Julius Jensen Named To Planning Committee Salem -4UPD- Ji'lius Jensen, director of the Oregon De partment of Planning and De velopment, has been named to the executive committee of the Association of State Plan ning and Development Agen cies, Gov. Robert D. Holmes said today. Jensen is in Washington, D.C., for a meeting of the Association. felt the law should state that "no person shall sell, offer for sale or expose for sale fluid milk which does not conform to a standard of identity es tabished by the department." Nevada Atomic Tests Scheduled Las Vegas - (UPD - The Atomic Energy Commission today slowed down its sched ule for 10 nuclear tests on the Southern Nevada desert and said the first shot will not be ready until next Tues day at the earliest. A firm date for the initial test in which a nuclear de vice will be detonated from a balloon will probably be set Saturday, a spokesman said. The second shot will not be detonated until after Sept. 20 and the third will not be ready before October accord ing to the AEC. Jackson easily won renomination in Wash ington's primary election Tuesday and will face Wil liam B. Bantz, a political new comer, in the Nov. 4 finals. Jackson, an ardent advo cate of a nuclear and missiles buildup, overwhelmed Alice Franklin Bryant, Seattle grandmother who demanded an immediate halt of atomic testing. With 4,576 of the state's 5,029 precincts reporting, the junior Washington senator polled 296,942 votes to Mrs. Bryant's 51,537. Bantz had 130,358.. Renomination without op position was won by the five members of Washington's congressional delegation, Re publicans Thomas Pelly, Jack Westland, Walt Horan and Thor C. Tollefson and Demo crat Don Magnuson. Russell V. Mack, a Repub lican member, crushed his only opponent, Forbus Wil liamson. A strong trend in dicated that Mack would face Victor A. Meyers, secretary of state and Washington lieutenant governor from 1933-1953, in November. Meyers was beating out Charles Savage,' former con gressman and John R. Riley, 31-year-old attorney. Former congressman and U.S. Senator Hugh B. Mit chell, attempting a political comeback, held a modest lead over State Land Commission er Bert Cole for the Demo cratic nomination ' for second district - ' congressman with more than half the precincts reporting. Billy Rose Willing To Direct Centennial Portland (UPD Broadway showman Billy Rose said Tuesday he would be willing to direct the Oregon Centen nial Industrial World Trade Fair next year-for half a mil lion dollars. Rose was contacted in New York by the Oregon Journal after reports that he had been approached about directing the centeniial. Centennial of ficials here said there were no definite plans for hiring Rose. EMBASSY SECRETARY DIE Madrid (UPD John F. Income from these projects ranges from SI to $100 and higher, according to an analy sis of "penitentiary pay dirt", in the current issue of Ohio Penitentiary News. Miss Claridell Kinney and Miss Ann Ward, who give their ages as "over 21" ar rived on racing bicycles load ed down with camping and personal equipment after get: ting a ride to the top of the Blue Mountain summit from La Grande in a pickup truck. The two young teachers left Clifton, N.J., on June 28 for Portland as goodwill am bassadors for Youth Hostels and to see the country. They said they will stay in Pendleton for four days be fore completing the last leg of the trip to Portland where they intend to settle.
