You and your partner stand a few feet apart and toss the ping-pong ball back and forth, catching it, if you can, in the paper cup. This isn't easy, so if you get discouraged, use an empty cylindrical carton (such as ice cream comes in) . Copy the picture of Toots and the circular foot piece on thin, stiff cardboard. Color his ruffle a bright shade with crayon. Then cut out the pieces you have drawn. Punch small holes with a pin on therdots shown at the lower edge of the ruffle and in the middle of the foot piece. You and your special friends or club members can baffle everyone even your parents if you try this funny trick in talking. You know that in English the vowels are a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y. All of the other letters are called consonants, of course. Now, if you can spell the words you use every day, you're ready to go! In no time you can talk Tut Talk! You talk by spelling the words in your sentence, but whenever you come to a consonant, you say the letter twice, putting the letter U in between. For example: T is tut, B is bub, L is lul, R is rur, M is mum, etc. The vowels and y, you leave plain just say them. So, to spell the word boy you'd" say, "bub-o-y," girl would MA. be "gug-i-rur-lul," book would be, "bub-o-o-kuk." With practice you can talk quite rapidly and the result ing sounds are pretty puzzling. If a word has a double consonant, like the two Ls in boll, you say, "bub . a-lul squared." For mitt, you say, "mum-i-tut squared." Bill would be "Bub-i-lul squared." Understand? The only other irregularity is in the case of the letter C. Sometimes it is pronounced like an s, as in city, and other times it sounds like a k, as in cat. So, to avoid a mixup with s or k, we say all Cs as "cus." Now after dinner tonight say to your brother or sister, "Pup-lul-a-y bub-a-lul squared?" I hope the an swer is "O. Kuk!" And we wish you "Gug-o-o-dud lul-u-jcus-kuk!"
