Mercy Flights - Three per sons were transported by air ambulance planes operated by Mercy Flights, Inc., of Med- ford yesterday. They were Nellie Pollock and Josephine Cord, both of Happy Camp, who were brought to Med ford for emergency medical treatment, and Lelonus Tug gle, Camp White, who was flown to the Veterans Ad ministration hospital in Port land. The three brought to 861 the number of patients carried by planes of the non profit corporation in the past &V2 years. Christian Workers Schedule Meeting The Young Christian Work ers of Medford will meet at 7 o'clock at St., Mary's school this evening. Miss Regina Hanon will lead the gospel inquiry. Last week Miss Noreen Kelly conducted a model meeting for the group. Today a record dance will be held following the meeting for the members and guests. . During the summer activi ties have included swimming parties, square dancing, pic nics, and trips to Brookings and the Lava Beds. The Rev. John Ilg, priest at Sacred Heart Catholic church here, represented the Medford Young Christian Workers at the West Coast Study Week held in Asilomar, Pacific Grove, Calif., July 27 through Aug. 1. The local group, a member of the West Coast Committee of the YCW, reaffirmed their national platform to oppose all unjust labor legislation. V SCALPED Bride-to-be Rose Marie Gemma, 17, of Lynn, Mass., attacked by five girls, all 18 and 19, who beat her, cut off all her hair, poured nail-polish on her head and ripped her wedding dress to shreds. The five girls were all married, and the attack occurred in the apartment of one of them for whom Miss Gemma was baby-sitting. Mo tive for the attack has not been disclosed. Miss Gemma was hospitalized for three days after the beating. Here she displays some of the hair that was cut from her head, and also the black eye she received in the attack. UMC Workers To Recruitment of workers in the United Medford Crusade campaign's business divisions is being stepped up as the Sept. 15 "kick-off" date ap proaches, according to Dick T r avis, general campaign chairman. Solicitors ior commercial, distribution, retail . and serv' ice divisions still are needed, he said, and there are a few vacancies in the professional and public employees divi sions. A drive to obtain workers is being conducted, he said, so training sessions for work ers may. be held prior to Sept. 15. Travis said that "experi ence lias shown that solicitors who are recruited too late to meet with the regular divi sion training sessions do not do as well as trained merf. Training sessions are de signed to acquaint UMC workers with services offered by the 26 agencies which will benefit from the campaign, giving solicitors enough inf or- Court Distributes O&C Grant Money .'Members of the county court signed an order yester day for distribution of the $1,720,960.67 in Oregon and California railroad grant lands timber sales for the last fiscal year. The general county fund will be given $682,244.06 and the general road fund $529, 650, the order stated. The Medford library fund will receive $30,624.94, the Ashland library fund $2,889.68 and the Rogue River library fund $223.18. A total of $22,000 will be allocated to the emergency fund and $4,548 to the civil defense fund. The building construction, impro vement and maintenance fund .will get $25,000, and the agricul ture and horticulture experi ment station sinking fund, $30,000. A total of $206,160 will be given the county school fund, $11,734 to the Jackson county historical fund, and $15,068 to the juvenile detention home operation and maintenance fund. A total of $160,818.81 will go into the O and C excess fund and - will be budgeted during the next fiscal year, according to the order. Joan Dobrol Wins Fair Scholarship Joan Dobrot, Central Point 4-H club member, became the winner of a $100 college schol arship awarded by Safeway Stores, Inc., to the champion senior ' dollar dinner contest ant at the Oregon State fair this week, Marilou Garner, county - 4-H" home-economics agent, has announced. Joan won the contest by serving a fried chicken dinner to four persons for' an aver age price of 60 cents each. The award is based on plan ning, preparation and serving of the complete meal to her self and three guests, Miss Garner explained. The con testants are allowed four hours from the time of enter ing the kitchen-dining room booth until leaving it tidy for the next contestant. Contestants furnish their own food, table linen and cen terpiece to fit their menu. As Joan prepared her menu she was judged on her buyman ship, the menu, the actual preparation of the food, her table, the way she served the dinner, her work habits, and housekeeping. Joan is in her eighth year of 4-H club work in Jackson county. Last year she was awarded a trip to the National 4-H club congress at Chicago for her outstanding 4-H club work, the 4-H agent said. Medford, Oregon, Friday, September 5, 1958 IS Medford Girl Injured In Auto Accident A 16-year-old girl received slight injuries last night when the sports car she was driving skidded off on the shoulder on Table Rock rd, and rolled over, according to the state police. Carroll Snow, 16, of Pine- hurst and Fir sts., Forest Acres, Medford, was driving ! north of Four Corners on the Table Rock rd. when the car evidently went off onto the shoulder, -officers said. The driver is reported to have suffered a cut left foot and bruises. She was taken to Rogue Valley hospital by Medford Ambulance Service.
