Herbert, ALAA president, is to enable station personnel of West Coast Air lines to conclude an employ ment agreement which will allow them to obtain and en joy the same rates of pay, rules and working conditions paid by other companies in the air line industry. After receiving a refusal to arbitrate from West Coast air lines, the National Mediation board on July 23 ended the mediation. The 30-day cooling off period ends on Aug. 23. At the same time Herbert announced that strike ballots have been circulated among station employees of Pacific air lines and "an early shut down appears imminent." "It is believed," remarked Herbert," that Pacific air lines has embarked upon a union busting campaign." Both airlines use the Med ford municipal airport.- Movielanders View Harris, Patterson Fight on Television By VERNON SCOTT UPI Hollywood Correspondent Hollywood (UPD Movie landers went to the fights this week to see Roy Harris take his lumps from champion Floyd Patterson, and most were disappointed that the Cut and Shoot challenger didn't win. Audie Murphy, most dec orated hero of World War II, sat grim - lipped throughout the bloody match, wincing every time his fellow Texan took a hard blow, f Before the fight began glamour girl Kim Novak made it clear she was for Harris. "I didn't care who won un til the boys came . into the ring," she said. "But look at that Roy Harris. He's just as cute as he can be. I hope Patterson doesn't hurt his face." At about the tenth round Kim was near tears as she watched gore coursing down her hero's battered face. Tony Curtis, a few rows away, was yelling for a knockout. He was one of the The Family Council Editor's not: The Family Council consists of a, Judge, a psychiatrist, three clergymen, a newspaper editor, a women's editor and two writers Each article i a summary ot an actnal report. Mrs. F. S. They are nor mal kids you can't keep them down. Flora S. I am nearly 17 and a senior in high school. I am having an awful prob lem with my younger sisters and brothers and my mother. I have a steady boy friend and he visits me nearly every night so he can help me with my homework. My younger sisters and brothers then start acting ' tip,-making noise," stu-1 . pid jokes and embarrassing remarks. When I tell my mother to make the kids stop, she says she doesn't like the Idea of me getting help with my homework from Larry. It's gotten so he doesn't want to come over to my house any more. He wants me to come Wer to his house, but my mother makes a fuss about that too. - Mrs. F. S Although Lar ry got ou of high school last year and therefore thinks he knows something, I happen to know - that he got through school by the skin of his teeth and I think Flora was doing a lot better before she got him to help with her homework. I told her to do her home work by herself, but then she spends half the evening talk ing to him on the telephone,' so it's no use trying to keep him to help with her home work. The younger kids can be pesky, but they do get all excited about having a visitor In the house every evening. They are just normal kids and you can't keep them down when something is going on. The Council: In a well regu lated household both young children and adolescents ac cept discipline easily if they Ex-Local Girl. Gets Foreign Job Washington, D. C. Miss Frances Maxine Lovett, 1308 Queen Anne ave., Medford, left New York City today for Athens, Greece. Miss Lovett, a member of the foreign service staff corps In the United States depart ment of state, has been in training in the department's Headquarter Offices in Wash ington, D. C, for the past three months. In Athens she will work in the American Embassy. Miss Lovett is a graduate of Phoenix high school and Medford Business College. Before joining the Foreign Service she worked at Mc Clellan Air Force base in Sacramento, Calif. Enroute to Athens she will visit London and Paris. Tulelake, Calif. (UPD H. Barnhart of Medford was suc cessful bidder here for a con tract to build a new shop building addition to the Tule lake High school. His offer of $74,771 was lwest of three bids for the project. also receive justice. From both, accounts, it ap pears to us that there is a lack of both discipline and justice in this home. Flora has a right to receive her boy friend without fear of intrusion and embarrass ment from her younger sisters and brothers. She should also accept discipline from her parents when they say they don't want Larry helping with her homework. Flora should not be seeing her boy friend every night of the week and the homework excuse is "riot a good one. Homework is given for the express purpose of making the student wrestle with cer tain problems on his own. Flora should realize she is depriving herself of a valu able experience when she doesn't learn independence in this respect. The library should be her only source of help with her homework. Mrs. F. S. seems unable to lay down the law as to the telephone. There should be a time limit on telephone calls. If Flora will not respect this limit, she should lose her tele phone privileges. It appears to us that Mrs. F. S. is using the younger children to make things un pleasant for Flora and Larry. This can only result in the chaos this family seems to be suffering from. Where is Mr. F. S. while all this is going on? It sounds as though a . firm masculine hand is needed somewhere in this picture. The younger children should learn that if they want their rights respected, they must treat others with cour tesy. We don't go along with the theory that "normal kids" can't be kept irr line when they understand the rules of the household and the rea sons for those rules. (Copyright 1958, General Features Corp.) ' few . Hollywoodites rooting for the champ. Bing Crosby sat with his son Philip and band leader Phil Harris. The Groaner, a long-time fight fan, seemed bored by the proceedings. But Harris took the oppor tunity to spar for a few mo ments with ex-champ Max Baer, neither of whom could have lasted a round with Shirley Temple. - Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds had front-row seats. "Down in front," little Deb bie howled when photograph ers jumped up to take pie tures. "I'm from Texas," she said proudly, "so you know who I'm pulling for. Both gosh, Roy sure is taking a beating." Ray Danton was on hand, too. His wife, Julia ' Adams, stayed home. "The last time I took Julie to the, fights one of the boys had his mouthpiece knocked out and it landed right in her lap,". Ray explained. "I have n't even been able to talk her into watching the fights on TV since then." Quinn Does Research Producer - director - actor Anthony Quinn was there doing research for his next movie, a fight film. Rory Calhoun, who stars in a new TV western series titled "The Texan" this fall, was hollering for Harris. After the fight he said, "may be" we ought to change the title to 'The Arizonan'." Also at ringside were Wal ter Pidgeon, Bob Evans, How ard Keel and Joe E. Brown. Director - producer George Stevens was fascinated by the Texas contingent, some of whom were wearing all white cowboy outfits and ten gallon hats. "If I'd tried to put my ac tors in those kind of costumes for 'Giant' nobody would have believed it," he observed.
