IURSS AMERICA To Arrive Thursday Miss America Will Crown Winner of Local Queen Event Miss America 1958, Miss Marilyn Van Derbur, is sched uled to arrive in Medford Thursday, Aug. 21, for a four day round of events during the Kiwanis County fair. The 20-year-old Miss will be making her first official visit to a county fair and her last official appearance in the United States before flying to Atlantic City to crown her successor. t While here, Miss Van Der bur will crown the winner of the Miss Jackson county pag eant Sunday. Miss Van Derbur is a tal ented organist and enjoys all types of music, as well as horse training, competitive swimming, and skiing. In ad dition to crowning the newly selected Miss Jackson county on Sunday, she will play the organ for fair guests as part of her final appearance here. Display of Colored Telephones Slated Pacific Telephone will dis play a "Cascade of Colors" at the combined Jackson county and 4-H and FFA fair Aug. 21 through 24 at the Medford Armory under sponsorship of the Medford Kiwanis club. Central attraction of the telephone company's display will be a water fountain in which color telephones are ar rayed. Also on view will be an automatic answering and re cording set; a push-button speakerphone, and telephones with a dial light and a volume control switch. Standard model phones to be seen at the exhibit are available in nine new colors, according to Manager Jack Creager. The colors are cherry red, light beige, aqua blue, light gray, ivory, white, pastel yellow, rose pink and moss green. Push-button phones and speakerphones are available in moss green, mahogany brown, light beige, light gray and ivory. Iowa Twins Sign Up For Duty in Air Force Des Moines (UPD Two brown-haired, blue-eyed 18-year-old girls from Tripoli, la. are likely to give the Wom en's .Air Force some confus ing moments. Karen and Karla Lobeck, identical twins, have both signed up for the WAF, which they admitted- would prob ably have considerable diffi culty telling them apart. "Our teachers had quite a lot of trouble figuring it out," Karen said. "It just depends on how long you know us." Banks Cooperate With Children's Savings Syracuse, N. Y.- - (UPD School children in Syracuse and Onondaga County saved more than one million dollars in the 1957-58 academic year. Banks participating in a lo cal school savings system said the pupil's average deposit was $1.37 and the accounts averaged $3 8. Ottawa county sheriff's of ficers apprehended the youths after they had smashed beer bottles along a one-mile stretch of the road. The boys were handed brooms. -Two and a half hours later, they had swept all of the broken glass from the roadway.
