Ja.net P. He has gone all out to help his secretary. Harold P. She's the best secretary I've ever had. Janet P. I sincerely be lieve that I'm not a jealous wife, but certain things in our household these days sure get my goat. My husband hired a young divorcee as his secretary. She is 29 and has a child. My hus band is 48. He went to every length to help her straighten out her affairs, recommended a lawyer, found an apartment for her and spent hours going over various details of her private life. All this was done evenings In our home while I served drinks and chaperon ed. Now he picks her up to get her to work in the morning and brings her home. One night her child became ser iously ill and she called my husband in hysterics. He rushed right over. - He's no doctor. What bus iness had she to call him and he to go? Sometimes I get to furious thinking about it I feel like rushing over and telling this woman off. a Harold P. Janet has been disgracefully rude to this young woman wno certainly never meant her any harm and who certainly isn t inter ested in an old fogy like me in any serious sense. It it true that I have man a?ed to be of help to Grace, but Janet overlooks the fact that this cirl is the best sec retary re ever had and has done wonders with my omce. At first she was overloaded with so many complicated personal problems that I leit it would be wortnwniie ior me to help her out. I have been proved right She has more than repaid me. I've never met anyone so willing to put in extra time and effort. I don't see what Janet has in beef about when I'm home every night and have never given her reason to doubt my loyalty to her. I'm just not the kind of guy, but Janet av there's always a first time and I'm at "that" age. Tha Council: When anoth er woman is involved, a wife's antagonistic feelings are often mistakenly inter preted as jealousy. The hus band, if he is an older man and innocent of the charges, becomes quite flattered at the idea. This lends a little ruei to the spark. But w don't think Janet's feelings in this case are real jealousy. We think she is angry, and rightfully so, be cause she sees her husband being used in an unfair way by another person. We think she'd feel about the same if she were used that way by another man only it isn't likely that Harold would permit himself to get into such a situation with another man. Grace is undoubtedly trading on her feminine appeal to a man who is flattered by her dependence on him. We think it's fine for em ployers to be concerned about their employees personal problems, but for the sake of good office relations as well as good personal relations, there ought to be definite lim its.
