0 "V" -. ' Jo Stafford . 09 by Norman Weiscr TOPS ON THE RECORD SHELVES: Quality albums for all musical tastes can be found in your local record shop this month. "Brigadoon," a special waxing by the Broadway stars of this smash musical, is Columbia's blockbuster. "Vienna Mood Music" offers 45 minutes of sheer delight as performed by Heinz Sandauer and his orchestra on Angel, and for a complete change of pace, try "Jackie Gleason Presents Riff Jazz" on Capitol. MUSIC FOR FAMILY LISTENING: "Rainy Night in Paris," with Franck Pourcel and Strings, is a musical panorama of Paris you won't want to miss, brought to you by Capitol. 'Decca's "Time to Unwind," as performed by Werner Muller's orchestra, is soothing medicine for jangled nerves. London brings us Edmundo Ros and his orchestra in "High Fi-esta," designed for your dancing pleasure, while "Don't Take Your Love from Me" spotlights the silky trumpet of Bobby Hackett via Capitol. Moving into a vocal program, spin "Four on the Aisle," Columbia's entry starring the Four Lads. RCA has another excellent LP by Julie Andrews, titled simply, "Julie Andrews Sings." For those who dig Maggie Whiting, try Dot's "Margaret," a truly fine effort by this pro. Don't miss "From Here to Yonder," a Cadence album by Lola Fisher, the "My Fair Lady" chick. "David Whitfield Favorites" finds this London recording star giving out in top fashion. "Swinging Down Broadway" shows why Columbia considers Jo Stafford its very own "Miss Music." COVERING THE CLASSICS: George Gershwin's "An American in Paris" and "Porgy and Bess" are beautifully performed by the Minneapolis Symphony in an other Mercury Living Presence series. RCA brings us two fine recordings by Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony, "Symphony No. 3" and "Tragic Overture" by Brahms, and Moussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" as orchestrated by Ravel. "This Is Vienna," featuring the Vienna Philharmonic in concert, is released by London, which also offers "Recital of Songs and Arias, Number 2" by Renata Tebaldi. If ballet is your cup of tea, you'll find two new Angel releases made-to-order for your collection. "Giselle" is played by the Royal Opera House Orchestra, Convent Garden, and "The Three-Cornered Hat" is sung by Consuelo Rubio with the Orchestra National de la Radiodiffusion Francaise. JAZZOMANIA: Many jazzophiles say Lee Wiley can sing with the best of them, and when she joins Billy Butterfield in RCA's "A Touch of the Blues," you'll prob ably agree. Contemporary has issued an extraordinary series of three LPs called "All Night Session," each featuring the Hampton Hawes Quartet. Paul Smith's "Delicate Jazz" is just that, and Capitol's fine pianist displays a deft touch. EmArcy has a couple of winners in "I Swing for You" by Lenny Niehaus, and Billy Eckstine's "Imagination." Jimmy Witherspoon teams with Jay McShann and his band on RCA's "Goin' to Kansas City Blues," a real swinging set. For those on a restricted budget, Camden's "The Metronome All-Star Bands" package will provide some most enjoyable listening. TUNING IN THE TEENS: The jeeners in your home will go for "From My Heart," a sultry Summer delight by Tony Perkins on RCA. For the dance sessions, try Capitol's "Everybody Rocks," featuring such names as Nat Cole, Sonny James, Johnny Otis, Tommy Sands, and Gene Vincent. Decca's contribution is called "Band stand Hop" and includes a rocking piano, rolling organ, and jumping orchestra. SAMPLING THE SOUND TRACKS: The original score for the first Cinamiracle movie, "Windjammer," should make for exciting listening no matter what your taste in music may be. It's a Columbia release. "The Vikings" is one of those robust out door epics, and United Artists' sound track is a lusty experience. Also from United Artists comes the music from "God's Little Acre." WESTERN RAMBLE: Hank Thompson and his fine band are considered top pur veyors of Western music, and pop fans also should like his new Capitol etching, "Dance Ranch." "Under Western Skies," an RCA wax by George Melachrino and his orchestra, offers some fine songs played with a true feeling. 1 4 i J r t A r M f - -v r IT 1 Stop your dog's scratching IN MINUTES! with SERGEANT'S new formula SKIP-FLEA SCRATCH POWDER When your dog suffers from itching and scratching, he looks to you to help him.
