1CA MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Ore., Thursday. August 14. 1958 The Family Council Editor' note: Tbe Family Council consHls of a Judge, a psychiatrist, rhre clertymen. a newspaper editor, a women's editor and two writers Each article s a turumarv ot an actual report The Family Council does ot give advice: it merely reports on problems that have been dealt vitb by responsible agencies and cooAsei0?v Olga R. I hate my rival the golf clubs. Frederick R. She should travel without me. Olga R- I am one of that unfortunate tribe the "golf widows." We have been married 25 years. Our three children are grown and one is married. I had long looked forward to this time of our lives as the period when my husband and I could start enjoying our sec ond honeymoon. I thought we might travel, do things together. Well, we do travel to the golf course. I have grown to hate my rival the golf clubs. I enjoy the game, but I feel there are other things in life to enjoy. I want to see the world. To Fred the world is a golf course. Frederick R What is the sense of spending thousands of dollars just to do something because everyone else is doing it? That's the way I feel about travel. I dont like museums, atrange foods, packing, un packing, dragging yourself around vhen your feet are tired. As far as I"m concerned. Olga should go on some of these trips she has a yen for. She could go with her sister or one of her women friends. She says she doesn't want to leave me alone, but I coijld be perfectly content without her for a little while. American is good enough for me any day! The Council: We wish we knew the ideal way around this sand trap, but we're stymied. The attempt to find an ideal solution would be a little like aiming for the 19th hole and we think Olga ought to try to adjust to accepting an answer that would be a little below par. She should not deprive her self of the fun she has looked forward to. It may be a little disappointing to have to give up her dream of traveling with her husband, but how many of our dreams are fully realized, anyway? Two women traveling together will have more fun than a woman with a reluctant husband. It is possible that when Olga comes back from her trip and speaks of the places she has seen and the good times she has enjoyed, Fred will begin to feel like a bit of a duffer. He may suddenly catch the wanderlust from her. It is also possible that after a , short time as a iravei widower," Fred will begin to realize how difficult it is to accept the role .of a second fiddle to a hobby. He may be come more willing to com promise. To other "golf widows" who are uninterested ir travel or unable to consider it, we would suggest the same basic solution. If you cannot develop an enthusiasm for golf, build up a little courage and initia tive and find your own en thusiasm. It does take a little spunk to get out of that rut of helpless annoyance in the face of your rival, but it is worth all the energy you can muster. It could be the begin ning of much richer living for you. (Copyright 1958. General Features Corp.) Percolator Lid Causes Police Alert Tulsa, Okla. d'PD A per colator lid disappeared in a Tulso department store Wed nesday and store officials alerted police.
