Try and Stop Me
By BENNETT CERF-
BEVERLY SMITH tells- about the burly mountaineer who
came to town for a session of the legislature. Because he
could swing his whole county when he saw fit, the city slickers
figured he rated a banquet.
The hill-billy politico im
bibed a plate of consomme
and several stalks of celery
in pained silence, but really
busted loose when they put ,
a broiled lobster in front of
him.
"Gents,' he roared, "I
drunk your dishwater and
et your bouquet But I'm
durned if you get me to eat
this burnt-up bug. Get it
out of here!"
There's a porter working In.
a bit: department store who is
Irish to the core. In fact he's ao Irish that when an unsuspecting
customer asked him, "Do you know where the Chintz Room, is?"
he answered without hesitation, "That I do" (with possibly a "be.
gorrah" or two thrown in for good measure) and pointed straight
to a door labeled "Men." ,
