Miss Cloeila Small Cloetta Small Engaged to Wed Leonard J. Keene Mr. and Mrs. Cloe E. Small, route 3, box 240, Medford, an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Cloetta, to Leonard J. Keene, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Keene, 142 West Glenwood road, Med ford. Miss Small was graduated from Phoenix high school and is employed by Pacific Tele phone and Telegraph com pany. Mr. Keene, also a grad uate of Phoenix High school, is now attending Southern Oregon college. The couple plans a late September wedding. Houseguests- Houseguests of Mr. and Mrs Don Pearson, 190 East Ash land way, Ashland, are Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Smith and son, Michael, of Oak Park, 111. Mrs. Smith is the former Nancy Allen of Medford and a sister of Mrs. Pearson. The Illinois visitors plan to spend five days in the valley. Shower Honors Miss Henderson Eagle Point A bridal shower was held Thursday, July 31, at the Ray Chamber lain residence on Brownsboro highway, for Miss Joanne Henderson, bride-elect of Jim Pond, Medford. The wedding will be held Saturday, Sep tember 6, at the Eagle Point Community Bible church. Iowa Visitors Recent valley visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bolton of Sioux City, Iowa, who visited their son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Bol ton, 836 East Main street. The family, visiting the Norris Porter family on Old Stage road, arrived here from Quito, Ecuador, where Mr. Woodford, a lieutenant colonel in thf United States Army, was military attache. Showers Given For Sharon Hogan Miss Sharon Hogan, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Hogan, East Main street, Med ford, has been honored at sev eral bridal showers recently. A luncheon for Miss Hogan was given July 28 by- Mrs. J. C. Boyle at her home on Ross lane. Guests included the Mes dames William Parkinson, Charles Ashpole, Bernard Kelly, Robert Walker, Wal lace Long, and Eugene Gam bee, and Miss Ann Rowland, Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Boyle pre sented Miss Hogan with a piece of sterling flatware. .Mrs. A. S. Monroe was hostess at a shower given for Miss . Hogan at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Coleman, Greenway circle. Luncheon followed the early summer event at the Rogue Valley Country club. Eight of Miss Hogan's school friends at tended. Mrs. Kent Blackhu'rst and Mrs. E. B. Hogan entertained for Miss Hogan July 16. The party was a coffee hour given in the garden of the Black hurst home on' Keeneway drive. Miss Hogan was given the favorite recipes and cook books of the 15 guests who attended the party. Miss Hogan is the bride elect of Kenneth Mattson, Portland. The wedding is scheduled for August 16 at 2 p.m. in the garden of the Ho gan's home. Caster Family Holds Annual Picnic in Ashland The Caster family held its 18th annual picnic at Jack son Hot Springs Aug. 3. The families attending the event are descendants of a pioneer couple, Mr. and Mrs. Marion N. Caster, who arrived in Jackson county with their family about 1882. The remaining two of 10 children are Mrs. Effie Pru ett,' Medford, and A. L. Cas ter of Ellensburg, Wash., who was unable to attend. The oldest person present was Mrs. Pruett and the young est one was Timothy Barry, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Laird. A picnic lunch was served at 1 p.m., with the afternoon spent swimming and visiting. Out-of-town relatives were Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Laird, Berkeley, Calif.; Mrs. Mar guerite Dayton, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Laird, Tule Lake, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Laird, Klamath Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Barry and Timothy, Ridgecrest, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Pruett, Phoenix, Ariz. Medford Woman Appointed State Convention Chairman Miss Laura York, past state president of the Oregon Busi ness and Professional Wom en's clubs and member of the Medford chapter, was ap pointed general chairman of the state convention of BPW to be held in Medford May 15 through 17, 1959. The appoint ment was made last week end during the state board meet ing held in North Bend. Attending the board meet ing in addition to Miss York were Mrs. Jean Mast, presi dent of the local chapter, and Mrs. Harriet Watson, south west Oregon district, director of the club. Reports were given by the state chairmen at the meet ing who attended the biennial convention held in July in Se attle. It was reported that the convention delegates voted to hold annual rather than bi ennial conventions beginning in 1960 with a regional. con ventio to be held next year in Phoenix, Ariz. The Woodfords hold some of the ceremonial objects of the Jivaro Indians, the headhunters of the Amazon, while they relaxed recently on the lawn. Wednesday, August 13, the Ashland BPW club will hold a picnic in Lithia park by the duck pond at 6:30 p.m. Mem bers of the Medford club have been invited to attend. Silver Wedding Reception Held Sunday Afternoon Some 75 friends and rela tives attended the silver wed ding reception of Mr. and Mrs. Gaston Floux Sunday after noon at their home on Grant road. The anniversary cele bration was given by their children, Mrs. Gay Anderson and Mrs. Owen R. Kinder, as sisted by Mrs. Harry Dunn. The floral decorations and corsages were made by Mes- dames Arnold Bohnert, Les ter Gordon, R. D. K a y, Charles Jantzer and Mrs. Lew is Genter. The tiered wed ding cake, baked by Mrs. John Niedermeyer, was cut by Mrs. Arnold Bohnert using the heirloom knife belonging to the Bohnert family. Miss Sharon Anderson, a granddaughter, was in charge of the guest book. The table, with a pink lace cloth, had a centerpiece of Queen Elizabeth roses with silvered ivy and pink tapers. Pink miniature gladiolus with silvered magnolia leaves were used in arrangements around the rooms and entrance hall. Mrs. Floux wore a pink taf feta dress with gray overtones and orchid corsage. A gift from relatives and friends was a silver tea service and the corsage was a gift from the grandchildren. Out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Kindler, Red Wood, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Floux were married August 5, 1933, at the home of the bride's sister in ban Jose. The Rev. C. a. Knight officiated. They have made their home in the valley since 1944. Surprise Party Held forCouple . A surprise 25th wedding an niversary for Mr. and Mrs. Claude G. Owsley, 349 O'Gara street.-Medford, was held Sun day, July 27, at the Owsley's home. Hostesses for the event were Mrs. D. E. Kenner, Mrs Larry McNealy, and Mrs. Rob ert C. Cresap, a daughter of the honored couple. Between 25 and 30 guests attended. A tiered cake was baked by Mrs. Cresap and Mrs. McNealey and decorated by Mrs. lone Hertager for the occasion. Also present for the party was Gordon Owsley, son of the honored couple. Another son, James, was unable to attend. He is stationed with the United States Air Force at George Field, Calif.
