12 MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Oregon, Sunday, August 3, 1958 Local Residents Invited to Attend Tax Group Meeting Jackson county people in terested in the problems of state taxation have been in vited to attend all or parts of a two-day meeting of. the state legislative interim committee on taxation in two weeks, it was reported Saturday. The . meetings will be held in the auditorium of the Jack son county courthouse on Fri day and Saturday, Aug. 15 and 16, according to State Sen. Philip B. Lowry, a mem ber of the group. The committee of 11 mem bers, five from the state sen ate and six from the house of representatives, is making a thorough study of all phases of state taxation, and this meeting is one of a series being held throughout the state. It was set for Medford specifically so local people could make known their views. Senator Lowry said. Pearson Chairman State Sen. Walter Pearson, Portland, is chairman. Sena tor Lowry and State Rep. Fay Bristol, Grants Pass, are the southern Oregon members. Subcommittee meetings will include inheritance and gift taxes at 9 a.m. Friday; tax exemptions at 1 p.m. Fri day; timber and natural re sources at 3 p.m. Friday, and ad valorem and transporta tion taxes, at 9 a.m. Saturday. The general meeting of the full committee will start at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and among other business will consider subcommittee re ports on capital gains taxes, and on license fees charged out-of-state corporations. A delegation .to represent the local chapter at the na tional convention of Western Mining Council to be held in Yreka, Calif., on Nov. will be appointed. It is expected that California Senator Randolph Collier, "father" of the Ore gon mountain tunnel bill, will be present.
