These articles in news papers and magazines tell how Ameripn men are becoming a race of weaklings because of dominating females, and I don't intend to &t it happen to me. A woman's place is in the home and nowhere elst. , Marcia A. Yes, I guess I'm just one of thoe awful mod ern American women they're all writing about. I love to get out of the house. A man is allowed to say he's glad to get out of the office, but if a woman says she's dy fSg to get away from the home and children, everyone jumps down her throat and says she's no real woman and she's ruin ing the race. I love my kids, bless 'em. I'm not crazy about house work, bSt I do it and I don't complain, either. Sometimes I break up-the day a bit with a telephone chat. Maybe I do it too much, but then I'm the loser. I have to rush twice as hard the next day. I'm not trying to dominate my husband or wrap him up 3n apron strings. Does it real ly make him less of a man to help get dinner twice a week when I go to meetings? Tgi Council: We don't go Disjrici Governor Speaks at Rotary Leslie ti. The work allotted to each sex is a variable thing that changes with different genera tions and societies. Individual couples within the socety of ten arrive at their own ar rangements which are more satisfactory to each partner than the prevalent mode. .We don't believe a man loses his manliness when he puts on an apron, but if he feels he is endangering him self in any way, we would recommend slacks and a sport shirt when he gives his wife a hand in the kitchen. We can almost guarantee that contact' with a pot will not in itself endanger anyone, but weeping and wailing about one's sad plight is cure to tiir down boh self-respect .nd the rspect of children. Tfcat Ts something only she a& htr husband can de cide, but we certaialy think her desire to get away from the home should be satisfied within reason. And that means without placing too great burden "on her husband. Some ccoperation, on Ed gar's part is necessary, and we think he should recognize that . it is worth it. Despite his sweeping pronouncement, we do think he would like a wife whose place was in the home "and nowhere else." In societies dominated by this idea, it was also the man's custom to seek feminine com panionship outside- of his home. His wife 'was a rather unendurable companion. American men on the whole prefer to make companions of their wives and wouldn't be happy if the women suddenly decided to retire. into a harem like feminine world. Student Tastors Utilized In OSC Food Study Plan Corvallis Student "taste testers" can serve as conven ient and reliable "stand-ins" for Oregon consumers in food State college research shows. Fourteen foods were tested by students and by Oregon families to compare food pref erence opinions. Foods tested were blackberry jam, cheddar cheese, barbecued potato chips, chocolate chips, tomato juice, graham crackers, sliced pickles, tomato soup, butter, shelled filberts, green beans, canned peaches, applesauce, and corn. According to Mrs. Lois Sather, food technologist in charge of OSC flavor studies, student opinions in most cases reflected consumer likes and both groups showed strong preferences for the same foods. Between 120 and 180 stu dents tested the foods in the college "flavorium" labora tory. A total of 230 families in Portland, Astoria, Corvallis, Albany, Salem, Medford and Klamath Falls, took part in the home survey. Scientists and producers both feel the need for con sumer acceptability of food products, says Mrs. Sather. If the consumer does not like the food, he's not going to buy it at the store.
