Steelworkers Quit At Timken Plant Canton, Ohio (UPD More than 9,000 members of the United Steelworkers Union walked off their jobs at Tim- ken Roller Bearing Co. plants in four Ohio cities Wednesday night. Picket lines were set un at four plants here and at plants in Columbus. Wooster and Zanesville as the third shift went on. ' Workers observed nicket lines at the plants and picket ing was reported orderly. Union leaders said the strike resulted from differ ences of "a fraction of a cent" over a new pension contract. Policewoman Said Shoplifter Los Angeles (UPD Flor ence Coberly Stanton, chosen as the outstanding woman on the Los Angeles police force in 1952, today faced dismissal from her post because of a shoplifting charge. Dismissal Awas ordered Wednesday by a police board which reviewed a charge that Mrs. Stanton and her mother lifted $2.32 in groceries from a supermarket. Police Chief William H. Parker said he would dismiss the policewoman as soon as he received the board's order. Itschner, chief of Army engineers, said yesterday that Russia is developing water re sources on a large scale. He said the Soviet Union has built or has under con struction 10 projects that will develop more power than this country's biggest' dam, Grand Coulee. Gen. Itschner said the de velopment of water resources "is a very important program in Russia, second in priority only to atomic power and mis siles." He added that he was not suggesting this country match the Russian power program. He said water resources in this country were well devel oped in comparison to Rus sia where there are vast un developed resources. Machinist Union Votes to End Strike Portland (CPD Members of Mt. Hood Lodge. 1005 of the Machinists Union 'voted Wednesday night to end a strike at. the Freightliner Cor poration here and a union of ficial said they would return to work today. About 170 employees had been affected by the strike which shut down truck manu facturing operations at the plant June 26. Verle Russell, business agent for the union, said the men accepted an agreement calling for a 37Vi-cent hourly wage increase to be spread out over a three-year period.
