Pinochle awards went to Mrs. Walter Marquess and Mrs. Everett Robinson, canasta to Mrs. Frank Strat ton and Mrs. John Mansfield. Mrs. Ira Mottern received a special award. Annual Picnic Set By Roxy Ann Club Roxy Ann Home Economics club will hold their annual potluck picnic Wednesday, July 16, at the W. W. Clay pool residence on Williams creek. Members planning to attend are reminded to take their own table service. Mem bers are to meet at the Mat locks at 10 ajn. to leave for the picnic area. Palmers Honored Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Palmer, 3638 Bursell road, Central Point, were honored July 1 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bostock, Ross lane, on their golden wedding anniver sary. Friends and relatives of the Palmers planned the event asa surprise to the couple. The couple was married in Ridgeway, Colo., July 1, 1908, and moved to the Medford area in 1929. A tiered heart shaped cake was served. The serving table was decorated with white and yellow gladiolus and tapers. The group presented the Palmers with a money tree as an anniversary gift. Platz Gallery Hangs Paintings Selected works by twelve Southern Oregon artists are hung this month at the Clif ford Platz gallery in the Pur ucker Music house, Medford. The artists are from Yreka, Calif., Grants Pass, Ashland and Eagle Point. These pictures were chosen at the Grants Pass annual show and from the Yreka Art show; most of them are rib bon winners. Appreciation is expressed by Mr. Platz to those contrib uting to the exhibit. Brochures are available at the gallery in the Piano room, 111 North Central avenue, Medford. . Crip- pen Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen G. Crippen, Ashland. Miss Johnson is a Medford High school graduate. Mr. Crippen is serving on active duty with the U.S. Army Re serve. Prior to reporting to his present duty assignment he attended Southern Oregon college. Miss Fox, the daughter of Mrs. Thelma Fox of Long Beach, Calif., and the late William E. Fox, is a senior in elementary education at Southern Oregon college. She attended Ashland schools and will be student body vice president at the college this fall. Other activities at the college include serving as junior class treasurer, she was elected 1956 Raider Princess, is a member of the college choir and ensemble, and was tapped for Robes, women's honorary society, this year and she was awarded the Sor optimist club scholarship this year. Mr. Deller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul M. Deller, Klamath Falls, is a junior in secondary education at Southern Oregon college, having, attended Ore gon State college for his first two years. He has been active in college musical productions for the past year. The wedding js scheduled for early fall. Visitor Arrives From New York Mr. and Mrs. Fred Law rence, 1422 Euclid avenue, have as their guest Mrs. Law rence's brother, John Schmidt, of Owego, New York. He plans an extended stay. The Lawrence's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Rose, and their three children, Cindy, Terrilyn and Matthew, San Jose, Calif., also recently visited here. An other granddaughter, Sandra Ludwig, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Ludwig, is to arrive soon from Richmond, Calif., to visit relatives here. Groups Announce Picnic Wednesday Mistletoe club and Royal Neighbor Juvenile club will hold a picnic Wednesday, July 16, at Hawthorne park at 12 noon. Persons attending should take their own table service and whatever food as signed to them. Wieners and ice cream will be furnished. Tell Engagement Of Two Students Trail Mr. and Mrs. James M. Sawyers, Trail, announce the engagement of their daughter, Sandra, to George Leland Gilman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Gilman, 482 Beal lane, Medford. Miss Sawyers is a sophomore at Southern Oregon college having graduated from Eagle Point High school. Suii$y, July 1 J, 1958 3 Latest Footlightcr Rjay To Open Tuesday Evening "Laura" three act murder the deceased heroine but mystery by Vera Caspary and George Sklar, now in rehear sal by Medford Footlighters, will open Tuesday, July 15, for a five night run, accord ing to Leslie Boardman, presi dent of the civic group. Based on the novel of the same name by Vera Caspary, the suspense "thriller" had a long run on Broadway before it was released for little thea ter production, the president said. The play has a cast of five men and three women. The title role is carried by tfee "murdered victim", who, in spite of her absence, manages to continue her spell over the male characters through out the play. One of the most hopelessly smitten n Laura is the detective investigating the case, who has never met coiSes to understand her by studying her personal effects and the evidence around her deatS. Directing the play is Thay er Tarvin, while the cast con sists of John Wright, Dorothy Sloniger, Helen Ashley, Li da Smith, Mr. Boardman, Bill Petty, Al Reiss and Frank Buchter. Mrs. John Wright will act as bookholder for the production. Tickets for "Laura" may be obtained at Puruckers, Swems and from members of the cast as well as at the box office.
