o ILLINOIS VALLEY New Officers Announced By RUTH RAUSCH Cave Junction the new ly appointed officers of the Illinios Valley Chamber of Commerce were announced at the annual chamber dinner Wednesday evening in the Eagles hall at Kerb. Gordon White, manager of the Bank of Illinois Valley is the new president, Wil liam J. McLean vice presi dent and Alan Markley, secretary-treasurer. The officers ' were elected Tuesday at the organizational meeting of the board at Nowman's cafe. By a mail ballot, Dick Rians, Allan Markley and Carl Spieth were elected to the board which includes Lewis Krauss, James McDer mott, M. A. Sprague, William J. McLean, C. R. Piller and Gordon White as the hold - over members. Delegations from the Grants Pass and Del Norte county chambers were pres ent at the dinner. The Med ford chamber and Senator Collier of Yreka sent regards that due to conflicting dates, couldn't accept the invita tions. Lawrence Cushing, a former chamber president, emceed the affair. Opal and Jack Spitz have their grandson, Terry, of Van ''Nuys, Calif., with them for the summer again this year. Molay were visitors at the regular meeting of the Red wood chapter held in the Masonic temple in Kerby on June 25. The De Molay mothers served refreshments of pie, coffee and milk to the boys of both chapters in the social rooms of the temple. Mrs. Joe Ollis was as- 'sted by Mrs. Theda Wright and Mrs. Hom er Snider. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Byers and children of Kerby have re turned from a two weeks va cation with friends and rela tives in Muskogee and Tahale quah, Okla. The Chester McDonalds of Kerby have been in .Willow Creek-, Calif., for the past two weeks where Donald has been employed. The Western Mining Coun cil will meet Monday, June 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ameri can Legion hall. More than 50 members now belong to the council. The Fred Salvages are host to Mrs. Salvage's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Jammison of San Jose, Calif. They plan a week vacation here. Mrs. Alton Sowell has put out a plea for more. partici pants in the Red Cross first aid classes which will start in September. The minimum age limit is 15, however, the younger people may partici pate in the classes, but will not receive certificates. If enough youngsters below the 15 age limit do sign for the course, a junior depart ment can be formed and they will be eligible to receive cer tificates for the junior course Mrs. Sowell said. The Illinois Valley 4 - H Live stock club met Saturday afternoon at the C. H. Nich olson home for instructions in washing, curling and gen eral grooming of their ani mals for presentation at the county fair. There will be a number of special meetings such as the one held Saturday between now and the time of the Jose phine county fair in August. Illinqis Valley Dairy club met Tuesday at the Bob Shaw han homje. Record books kept on the care of the animals were srflWn. Discussion of the coming showings being made ready for the State Fair took up most of the meeting. There were 24 of the Com munity Church Young Peo ple's Group at the hobo party at Elk Creek Tuesday eve ning. Mrs. Dolly Rosenberg, Don's mother, arrived Sunday from Pasadena, Calif., to spend a few days with her son s fam ily before joining her broth er, Leslie Parkhurst of Grants Pass, who will accompany Mrs. Rosenberg to Aberdeen, Wash., to be with their broth er, Howard, who is ill. Mrs. Rosenberg will return here for a longer visit later in the month. Mayor Banks called the members of the council into a special meeting last Thurs day night to determine what action, if any, should be tak en on the 60-day option the city holds on the present city hall building. The councilmen were fac ed with making an immediate decision because of the terms of the option which is due to -expire July 1 and Clem Arn old, owner of the building, is reported to have stated he did not care to renew it. A motion was formally made and passed by unani mous vote that the option be allowed to expire. The Grants Pass chapter De The Illinois Valley Jubilee committee held a short meet ing at the VFW hall Monday to discuss plans for the an nual event. There will be a meeting every Monday night from now until Jubilee time. All organizations and auxiliaries are urged to send their repre sentatives early in the plan ning stage. Word has been received by the committee that music has been assured for both the Labor Day dance and the Queen's Ball. Next Monday night, stand ing committees will be formed and advertising and tickets will be set up. The Illinois valley candi dates have returned from at tending the annual session of 4-H summer school at Ore gon State college in Corvallis. Norma, Roberta and Carol Martin and Billy DeMersse man left Monday, June . 16, and were back Sunday, June 22. The Illinois Valley Lions club had their winners and losers dinner Tuesday eve ning at the Todelope cafe. The club had been divided SNIDER'S MILK- 8? Mrs. Walt Hunting has re turned from a two weeks vacation in southern Califor nia, bringing home with her Mrs. Dewey Killebrew of San Diego, who will be here for two weeks. Mrs. Hunting was with her son's family, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Smith, in Ontario and with her son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Leslie Scown of Hollywood. Two sets of grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Prairie of Lone Mountain rd. and Mr. and Mrs. Russel Doran of the Airport rd., have been hosts the past two weeks to their t h re e grandchildren, Mike, Pat and Teresa Doran who with their mother, Ar lene Prairie Doran, came down from Eugene June 14. Russell, Jr., is "expected this week end when he will drive in Saturday and take his family home on Sunday. The Lyle Prairies are en tertaining Lyle's sister, Mrs. Lettie Butcher of Norwalk, Calif., who plans to stay until July 3. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Steven son stopped for the day with Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Bur rows Tuesday on their way from Portland to Hale, Mich. Stevenson flew from Hale, where he has been vice presi dent of the Farmers and Merchants Sate bank, to Port land to pick up Mrs. Steven son who has just completed her teaching position. Mrs. Fred Ten Eycke and children have arrived for the summer from Los Angeles. MODEL PLANE CONTEST Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. (UPI) Model airplane builders from 13 states show off their work today in a regional contest sponsored by the Tactical Air Command. Use Tribune Want Ads Local Chapter of WAABI Honored The Rogue Valley chapter of the Women's Association of Allied Beverage Industry was recentiy honored by the national association : as one of the fastest growing chap ters in the United States. Since its founding last fall the club has grown to 63 members. Miss Betti Boyle, president, and Mrs. Ella Wilson, mem bership . chairman, both of Medford, attended a June meeting in Portland to accept a plaque and a S100 cash award in recognition of the successful membership drive. The chapter's recent com munity project included find ing food, shelter, and clothing for a family which arrived in the valley without funds. Part time jobs were found for the man, who is now able to re sume responsibility for sup porting himself and his fam ily, the chapter reported. The next meeting of the chapter will be at 8:30 o'clock tonight at the Jackson hotel.
