During its short duration, trees were twisted and torn apart, shingles were lifted : from roofs, grain fields werp flattened, some in one direc tion, while some close by. in the opposite. Winds of tornado velocity, which raised clouds of dust were followed by a downpour 01 ram which flooded and beat down garden plants, but did only slight damage to the pear crop. Much of this year's crop of alfalfa hay has been damaged to some extent here on as count of adverse weather con ditions. Farmers hereabouts laim that the wages of me chanics and service men work ing oiS farm equipment are way out of line with what a farmer geft for his time. A local farmer remarked that when g dealer sells you a piece of equipment he expects to live off it as long as it lasts. e W are sorry to report that Mrs. Julia Myers, our oldest citizen, has suffered a heart attack and is in a serious con dition. o o Th Abe Halfhills are now living ir the dwelling recent ly vacated by the Dick Reum family, who are now living in Medford. Mr. nd Mrs. Les Parsons of Escondido, Calif., aunt and ncle of Mrs. Ray Doran, were ' visitors at the Doran home; Saturday. j , Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Pleasant left3 June 19 for San Jose, j Calif., to attend the funeral of j a grandchild. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Hamil ton treated themselves to a few days vacation and mo tored to Ely, Nev., where they .visited at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Russ. Mrs. Russ and Mrs. Hamilton are sister. The daily Vacation Bible school held at the Forest Acres church for the local, and Forest Acres Sunday schools, was concluded Wednesday with a program in the evening. During the eight day session there were some 90 children in atientlance, and Local Firm Donates To Model Railroad A Medford maunfacturing firm has contributed its prod uct to the Morehead Planeta rium in Chapel Hill, N. C, for the installation of a perma nent model railroad exhibit, according to Planetarium man ager A. F. Jenzano. Kadee Metal Products com pany, the contributor, was es tablished here three years ago by brothers, Keith and Dale Edwards. The firm's primary product, couplers, is noted throughout the world for its quality. The Edwards moved here from Los Angeles where 'they operated a tool and die and plastic mold business. . Construction of the, exhibit at the University of North Carolina is expected to be complete in the fall. It will include an authentic "HO- scale" model railroad com plete with landscaping, towns and streams. Pretty Freshman Wins Medley Relay Mitchell, S. D. (UPI) Maurine Overseth, a pretty freshman at Augustana Acad emy at Canton, S. D., teamed with three male students to win the sprint medley relay here. The win provided the margin of victory for the Academy in the Interstate Academy Conference meet. 1171 1 neeis, contributed a great deal to the success of the meeting.' Sprague was in charge. About 50 members of the Retired Teachers attended their June meeting held re cently at the home of Mrs. J. S. Richardson. Much of the time of the afternoon session was taken up by promoters describing the Rogue Valley Manor, and endeavor to get application for memberships, all of which was a waste of time, according to some of the ex-teachers present, who claim retired teachers don't have that kind of money. We are glad to learn that our old time friend, R. V. Beall, who suffered a stroke some time ago, is improving steadily and expects to return home in the near future. Local farmers are almost daily having to turn away per sons seeking work, and ac cording to Bob Crenshaw of the Salvation Army Shelter, the calls for help coming to them have increased 50 per cent in the last two years. Some claim that our so-called reces sion is worse than the depres sion, in that the cost of living is at an all time high. The Rev. Jean Shelley, the Irish minister of the Central Point Church of Christ, load ed his wife and six young hopefuls into his. station wag on and drove out this way Tuesday on a cherry picking tour. They proved stiff com petition for the robins, who had gotten the idea that the cherries were to go to them as pay for their sineine. Rev. Dr. Inskeep and wife of Medford were brief callers here one evening last week, while the Doctor was gazing at the wonderful colorpH cloud effects, a jet mosquito discovered his hatless dome, and dove in for a1 belly land ing. This caused the Doctor to hot foot it to his car, and start for home, as a mosquito bite to him is worse than the sting of a bee.
