Others elect ed to offices for the next six months are Mrs. Dwight Cro sier, first vice-president; Mrs. Gerry Gastineau, second vice president; Mrs.- Walter Mar quess, secretary; Mrs. Carl Borg, treasurer. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Alfred Castillo, Mrs. Paul Johnson and and Mrs. W. T. Fasel. Prospective members at tending for the first time were Mrs. Leona Pettijohn, Mrs. Robert Hostetter and Mrs. Edmond Lyon. Inactive member present was Mrs. A. R. Schoenberg. A special award was pre sented to Mrs. I. W. House- child. After the business, meeting cards were played with prizes for bridge going to Mrs. C. M. Lee and Mrs. Hostetter; canasta to Mrs. Henry Rob ertson and Mrs. Fannie Eden; pinochle to Mrs. Jack Bren nan and Mrs. Clifford Grif fitts. . The next meeting will be installation of officers July 10. The purpose of the club is to welcome women who are newcomers to Medford and vicinity. All women who have lived in Medford two years or less are cordially in vited to attend and become members. Anderson Family Visits in Medford Mr. and Mrs. O. K. Ander son and sons, Kenneth and Glen, of Louisville, Ky., who have been visiting relatives in Medford for" the past two weeks, left for their home Wednesday. Mr. Anderson, who was stationed with the United States weather bureau in Medford for nine years, is now meteorologist in charge of the bureau's stations in Kentucky. While here they visited Mr. Anderson's mother, Mrs. Stel la Anderson, 617 North Bart- lett street, and a sister, Mrs. Edward Goodwin and family, 837 Marshall avenue. Houseguests of Mrs. Stella Anderson last week end were Mr. and Mrs. Don Neilson, Hamilton City, Calif., and their children, Donna and John. Donna, who had spent Mr. and Mrs. J. Claude Sparks have recently return ed from a three weeks visit with relatives and friends in cities of Northern Oregon. Whle guests of Mrs. Sparks' brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ray W. Gill Port land, the golden wedding an niversary of the Sparks was observed at a reception which was attended by about 80 rel atives and friends from vari ous parts of Oregon. Among those attending were a num ber who had been present at the wedding on June 3, 1908. "Hosts for the event were Mr. arid Mrs. Gill and Mr. and Mrs, Francis Sparks, son and daughter-in-law of the honor ed couple. Allan and Jerry Sparks, grandsons of the Sparks, came corvallis, where they are at tending college to join their brother Lyle and sister Peggy for the occasion. Mrs. Sparks wore for the afternoon a grey lace dress over pink taffeta and her cor sage was a white orchid with yellow throat. Mrs. Fred Eiler and Mrs. Emily Tawny assis ted about the rooms during the afternoon. Mr. Sparks brother, Roy, a retired attorney 1 of McMinn ville who contributes to the poets corner of his paper, had composed a poerr for the wed ding occasion which was read. Among cards and messages was a frier uly letter from Governor and Mrs. Robert Holmes. Yellow and white were used in decorations about the room and the wedding cake, also in white and gold, was served by Mrs. W. T. Frost, a former Medford friend now living in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Turner and their two children, also formerly of Medford and now Portland during the afternoon. At the coffee urn and punch table were nieces of Mrs. Sparks, Mrs. John Klinker, Mrs. Corneilus Miller and Mrs. George Emken. In order that friends in Medford might also share the anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Sparks arranged to have a small reception upon their re turn home and this event was held in the Wallace Iverson home on Queen Anne avenue last Sunday afternoon. Decor ations were in yellow and white and were arranged by Mrs. Harlan P. Bosworth Jr. who also assisted Mrs. Marie Jefferson in serving punch during the afternoon. Mrs. Dan Cuthbertson, Chico, Calif, served the cake. Before her marriage Mrs. Sparks was Miss Edna Emken, Portland. Her wedding to Mrs. Sparks was at the family home of her mother, Mrs. Isabella Emken on June 3, 1908. Their wedding trip took them to Victoria, B. C. Mr. Sparks was in McMinn ville where he attended Lin field college and later went to Portland to join the staff of the city engineer's office. In 1922 he took the bar examina tion and was admitted to prac tice law and soon after was chosen deputy city attorney and assistant city manager of the city of Astoria which po sitions he held for a number of years. Always interested in title work and examination, which called for careful study, he took up that work and con tinued with it over a long period of time until his re tirement three years ago. Mrs. Sparks was a news writer for Astoria publications for several years, and later held the position of society editor. Twin sons were born in 1909. Allan lived to be but six years of age. Their son, Francis, is a business man in the city of Clatskanie. Past Chiefs' Club To Meet at Conrads Past Chiefs' club of the Pythian Sisters will meet Wednesday, June 2, at 1 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Emilie Conrad, 632 Palm street, for a covered dish luncheon. Pythian club met last Tues day evening at the home of Mrs. Conrad. It was voted to .start the "traveling basket" around again with each mem ber to send it on not later than three days after re ceiving it. Cards were played, with prizes being won by Mrs. Aud ley White, Mrs. Orville Hayes and Mrs. Don Anderson. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Rene Grosh, Ashland. Ceremony Held By Women's Club Cave Junction Mrs. Earl Boyd was installed president of the Illinois Valley Feder ated Women's club at a lunch eon held in the Oregon Caves chateau June 18. Mrs. Carl Peterson, Ash land, district president of the Oregon federation, was instal ling officer and was assisted by Mrg. Verna Backstrom Hausman, Medford, district fine arts chairman. Installed with Mrs. lo?t were Mesdames Eugene D ning, vice-president; Frrjfc Knight, secretary, and S Bunch, treasure?. Mrs. PU son appointed Mrs. Denning district community afffinf chairman. . Group life insurance pln date back to about 1911. Families Return From Trip South Central Point Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Johnson and two children, Scott and Anita Kay, and Mrs. Johnson's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pear son, Medford, have returned from a vacation spent in the south. . In Tucson, Ariz., they were guests of the Pearson's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Davis. Mr. Davis, manager of the bank in Davis Mathan Air Force base, form erly was with one of the Medford banks. En route to Arizona the group traveled through Reno, Nev., and into southern Cali fornia where they visited Disneyland. While in Arizona they made a trip into Mexico, and en route home saw the Grand Canyon country, visited Zion and Bryce Can- von National , parts ana toured the Mormon temple and museum in Salt Lake City. The Johnsons were also guests of Sgt. and Mrs. Ne ville Von Stein, former Med ford residents now living at Davis Mathan base. turned with her parents to attend Girls State at the Uni versity of California. (Knackstedt photo) Gordon Boner Named to Office Gordon Boner was elected grand knight of the Knights of Colmubus, Rogue River council, at their meeting June 23. Others elected were George Denman, deputy grand knight; Dr. N. J. Wilson, chancellor; Lee Pendergast, warden; Frank Lear, treasurer; Ted Feil, recorder; James Redden, advocate; Frank Hardin, in side guard; Neil Murphy, out side guard; and John Hoch statter, trustee. Mr. Hochstatter, retiring grand knight, has been ap pointed uistrict deputy for District 8 for Oregon.
