Oregon First Publication June 19, 1958 Second Publication June 26, 1958 Burdick Not To Annul Marriage To Ex-Secretary Washington (UPI) Elder ly Rep. Usher L. Burdick (R.-N.D.) has decided he doesn't want to annul his mar riage to his young blonde for mer secretary, after all. Why the 79-year-old Con gressman changed his mind remained a mystery. Burdick was not commenting.. But an aide said no recon ciliation was involved. Asks Suit Be Dropped The assistant, C. J. Berry, said Wednesday Burdick had sent a telegram to the clerk of the Cass County District Court in North Dakota asking that his annulment suit be dropped. The wealthy rancher-poll tician and 30-year-old Mrs Jean Rodgers were married here on Feb. 28. He" has said she agreed to marry if he promised to give her his Wash ington home and provide for her four-year-old son by a previous marriage which end ed in divorce. ' A few weeks later, how ever. Burdick filed an annul ment suit in Fargo, N.D., con tending the nuptials had never been consumated. Mrs. Rodgers promptly fil ed a suit of her own here ask ing for $400 temporary month ly alimony. Burdick's attorneys argued that the woman's suit should be dismissed. They said the lawmaker was unable to con sumate the marriage because of physical disabilities, Mrs. Rodgers herself never intend ed, to consumate it, and her Reno divorce from her first husband was inadequate. . 274.72, F.
