Grass Fire A grass fire was reported on lower Normal st., Ashland, below the rail road tracks Friday afternoon, the Ashland fire department reported. Logging Accident Ken neth Burnett, 32, Shady Cove, was in the Medford Osteopath ic hospital Saturday follow ing a logging accident earlier yesterday. While he was working for Al Cooper log ging company, near Shady Cove a rock rolled down hill striking Burnett in the leg, according to reports. He was taken to the hospital by Med ford Ambulance Service. Hos pital attendants said no frac ture was discovered. News About Servicemen AT ANACOSTA Seaman Apprentice Marcia Lee Presgrave, USN, has been in Medford for a three-week leave. She is the daughter of Mrs, A. C. Gpuld, 409 South Peach st. Miss Presgrave, a Medford High school graduate, joined the service in September, 1957, and is now serving at the Naval Air station, Ana costia, D. C. as a PBX switch board operator. - RECEIVES DEGREE James A. Perry was among the 63 University of Oregon seniors who were commis sioned as second lieutenants in the reserves Sunday, June 15. Perry, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Allan F. Perry, 105 Gen eva ave., will report to Shep herd Air Force base, Texas, Sept. 10, for three years of active duty. ' He received his bachelor of arts degree from the university. 28 Open Throughout The Year Mrs. G. M. Beebe, Pioneer Resident, Dies in Hospital Mrs. Gladys Mildred Beebe, 65, a pioneer resident of southern Oregon, died in a local hospital Friday after noon. Mrs. Beebe was born in Jacksonville Sept. 23, 1892. She was educated at Ft. Jones, Calif., and had lived in Jack son county for the past 50 years. The family home is at 587 Beebe rd., Central Point. She was a member and past secretary of Nevita Chapter, Order of Eastern Star of Cen tral Point, and a member of the Episcopal church. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John E. Myers, Medford: one son, Kenneth R. Beebe, Central Point; one brother, Murrel M. Kindle, Medford, and one sister, Dor is K. Budrow, Los Angeles, Calif., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Perl Funeral home Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. John S. Power of St. Mark's Episcopal church will officiate. Burial will be in the Siskiyou Memorial park. Nevita Chapter of Eastern Star will participate in the services at the fraveside. Pallbearers will be Merritt Swing, Everett Faber, Leon ard Freeman, Samuel D. Koehler, H. . P. Jewett and Marcus Dey. PHOENIX Injured Woman Better. By LILLIAN KNIGHT Phoenix Mrs. Minnie Col ver who fell in down town Medford about two weeks ago, fracturing a hip and wrist, is getting along satisfactorily and is now up in a wheel chair. She will soon be re leased from the hospital and will go to her son and daughter-in-law's home, Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Colver, near Ash land, for a while. Mrs. Colver was a Phoenix resident for many years and now is mak ing her home in Medford. Carol Morin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Morin, and Char: les Swingle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Swingle, went Sunday with the Reverend William Saladin to spend a week at the Lake O' the Woods youth camp for the Presbyterian churches of the district. The Rev. Saladin will be one of the councilors and teachers. A surprise baby shower for Mrs. Joe Cowley was held May 22 at the Presbyterian church. Color decorations were in yellow and green. Favors were candy and nuts placed in cups shaped as diap ers. Red and pink roses were used as a centerpiece on the table on which the gifts were placed. Games were played and cake was served, one being baked and decorated by Mrs. Edward Brown with a baby carriage in the center. About 25 guests were present.. Mrs. Clifford Schleigh and Mrs. A. A. Blankenship have returned home from Klamath Falls after spending several days with their children, Mr. and Mrs. Don Blankenship, who recently became parents. The younger Mrs. Blanken ship came back and will stay several days at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clif ford Schleigh. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Hanlon returned home Sunday after spending the week end with their daughter and family in Eugene. Their grandson came back with them to spend sev eral days of his vacation with them. Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Guy have returned to their home in Eureka, Calif., after visit ing their son and daughter-in-law and grandson, Gregory Lee. Mr. and Mrs. O. V. Poe have returned home after spending last week in Eugene attending the State Grange meetings there. Mrs. Poe is district Home Economics chairman of the State Grange. Mr. and Mrs. Charles John son attended the State Grange meetings held in Eugene last week. Johnson is master of the Phoenix Grange. He was born Nov. 12, 1904, the son of Oregon pioneer parents, H. N. and Icy (Mat ney) Lofland, in Medford. He was a member of Mar tinists (Christian mystics) and a member of the Rosecrucian order A.M.O.R.C., in which he was serving as master of the local chapter. He also was a life member of the National Rifle association. Mr. Lofland is survived by his widow,' Alphea, of Win chester; his father, H. N. Lof land, and two sisters, Mrs. Robert Stedman and Helen Lofland, all of Medford. Funeral services will be held at 4he Chapel of the Roses, Roseburg, at 3 p.m. to day. - T. M. Tankersley, of Roseburg -will conduct the Rosecrucian services. Crema tion will be in Siskiyou Me morial park, Medford. INFANT GIRL VINCENT. The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Vincent, Gold Hill, died in a local hospital Saturday. Besides her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Emory J. Vincent, Sams Val ley; her paternal grandpar ents, Mr., and Mrs. ' Criss Davich, Gold Hill; and her great grandmother, Mrs. Wil liam Hanscom, Medford. Chapel Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrange ments. Mr. and Mrs. Donovan Wolfe, June 11 at the Rogue Valley hospital. The baby weighed seven pounds,' eight and one half ounces. . 4 Edward G. Glover, who was a resident of Phoenix for several years until a few years ago, recently left to return to his home in South Dakota, after visiting here with his daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Donovan Wolfe and another daughter and family in Medford, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Semple in Medford. Word has been received here by friends of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Beck of the birth of a baby girl born to them on May 11. She has been named Kari Rene and weighed five pounds, nine and one-half ounces. The Becks are in San Pablo, Calif. Mrs. Beck Is the form er Irma Job and a Phoenix High school graduate and Beck's mother is Mrs. G. Beck of Camp Baker rd. A shower for Miss Bonnie Holmes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Artie Holmes, was given at the Presbyterian church by the women of the church June 3. Pink and white were used in the color decorations. Games were played, after which Miss Holmes opened her gifts arranged on a. table. Refreshments of strawberry shortcake and ice cream were served to about 30 friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Webster, (nee Bonnie Holmes) returned home on Meals drive, Med ford, June 18 after being mar ried in Reno, Nev., June 13. Mrs. W. R. Johnstone is visiting her sister in McMinn ville, Ore., this week. AMANDA LAWTON Funeral services for Mrs Amanda Lawton, 76, of Port land, who died in Medford Thursday, will be held next Wednesday at the A. J. Rose and Son funeral home in Port land. Chapel Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements. Mrs. Lawton, the daughter of Eli and Rose Lemeberger Wills, was born in Daisy, Mo., Dec. 18, 1882. She came west 30 years ago, and on Sept. 20, 1943, was married in Kel so, Wash., to Joseph Lawton, who survives. She had been in Medford on several occasions, and at the time of her death was visiting her step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Warn, 780 Queens dr. Besides her husband and step-daughter, Millicent, she is survived by two nieces, Mrs. R o s e 1 1 a Morehouse, Clackamas, Ore., and Mrs. Elsie Stulc, Winifred, Mont.; and one nephew, Ralph Smith, Lewiston, Mont. LORI BETH McKEMIE Lori Beth McKemie, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs: Kenneth McKemie, 821, West 10th st., died in Medford Fri day afternoon. She was born in Medford April 12, 1958. She is survived hy her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth McKemie, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Gustison and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Mc Kemie of Medford; and great grandmother, Mrs. Anna B. Lindley, Medford. Graveside services will be held at Siskiyou Memorial park Monday at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. George S. Roseberry of the First Methodist church will officiate. Caskey, 66, of 662 B st., Ashland, who died Thursday in a Medford hospital, will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the Ashland Mortuary chapel. The Rev. Lucille McClaflin of the Foursquare church will officiate. Committal will be in Mountain View cemetery, Ashland. Mr. Caskey was born in Keobuk county, Iowa, June 17, 1892. He had lived in Ash land for the past two years. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Wanda Row ley, Hayward,, Calif.; Mrs. Martha Burnett, Coronado, Calif.; and Mrs. Clara Scar brough, San Lorenzo, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Dahl, Webber, Kan., and Mrs. Dolly Scherick, Colorado Springs, Colo.; , even grandchildren and several nieces and nep hews. Religious Canvass Set in Table Rock Area Three country churches in the Table Rock area will con duct a religious canvass of the homes during the week of June 29 through July 6. The area to be canvassed will be from one mile south of Four Corners to the Rogue rives and east to the Crater Lake highway. The canvass is being sponsored by the Sunday school departments of the churches and the infor mation obtained will be made available to other ministers in the valley, it was reported.
