(UPI) Windows for atomic install tions being produced at Pen berthy Instrument Co. in Se attle are six feet thick and weigh as much as 14,000 pounds. Large cranes are re quired to put them in place. The purpose of heavy weight windows is to permit scientists to take a close look at intensely radioactive ma terials without danger to themselves. Since 1949, the year Larry Penberthy. founder of the company, originated high-den sity lead glass, his firm has built hundreds of windows for atomic laboratories through out the free world. Public Hearings Set To Draft New Laws Salem (UPI) A public hearing will be held in Port land June 11 with a view to drafting new regulations gov erning employment of women and minors in industry. The hearing, called by the State Wage and Hour com mission, will consider a pro posal to raise the present wage floor from 65 cents to Sm other standards that will be discussed include the present 44-hour maximum week, over time pay, weight lifting, sani taion, safety and general health protection.
