Super-Voltage Rays Helpful

At a recent medical meet

other forms of
radiation have
been giving

70 per cent of the lumps were

old type of treatment only
33 per cent were destroyed.
Already, the two-year sur

patients with cancer of the

Cholesterol in
Arterial Disease
. At Harvard, a team of doc
tors has discovered a new and
possibly very fruitful method
of studying the influence of
cholesterol and pther fat-like
substances on arteries. They
have grown cells from the
human aorta (the large artery
that comes out of the heart)
in cultures, and then have
modified these cultures by
adding cholesterol to the nu
trient medium. This choles
terol did much harm. Then
linolenic acid, such as is found
in vegetable oils, was added,
and the culture became al
most normal - again. When
stearic acid, which is found
in animal fats, was added,
there was a deposition of
much fatty substance among
the growing cells.
The results of these experi
ments tend to reinforce the
clinical studies which indicate
that unsaturated linolenic
acid, added to a diet, tends
