The record is a continu ation of the rapidly expanding porductive capacity of the in dustry which has brought a new high output each year since 1943, according to Har old K. Ashland Ashland Cham ber of Commerce and city council went on record this week opposing the proposed rate increase of tSe Pacific Telephone comply on the ground that it is discrimina iory aainst Ashland. ; Mayor Richard Neill said he agreed with Graham Dean, publisher of the Ashland Daily (sfri&mgs, and Homer Biljings, Ashland resident, that the rate hike was "discrimina tory" and "unfair." , The groups plan that their Opposition be expressed to the state public utility commis sioner and the telephone com pany. Dean said that fishland rates 'for one-party business and residential service would be advanced 20 per cent while Medf5g rates for the sanft service would be increased only 8.7 per cent under the proposed boost. . Manager Jack Creager f PT&T explained that the cost of service for the Ashland MjKlford area was more than anticipated. ' Reaches High wood was 4 per cent above 1956. Douglas exterior type plywood production rose 3 per cent from 1956 to 1957. Other softwood plywood spe cies increased 14 per cent over 19o6. Oregon, the leading produc er of softwood plywood in the U. S-, had 62 operating plants producing 62 per cent of all that produced in 1957. Cali fornia's 21 mills accounted for 13 per cent. The bureau of census pub lishes an annual report on softwood plywod and veneer which is available from the department of commerce, 217 Pioneer Post Office building, Portland 4, at 10 cents each. Western Air Lines to Resume Flights Los Angeles (UPI) West am Air Lines' first flight in three strike-bound months leaves here next Tuesday for Salt Lalti City and Minne apolis. Service, interrupted last Feb. 21 by a strike of mem bers of the Air Lines Pilots Association ALPA, will be re stored to 26 cities on the first day of operations, according to WAL officials. The company announced Thursday that the flight schedule would include 21 other cities as soon as pos sible.
