In many ways it substantiates it." Porter of Ore gon, a prime mover behind the Washington investigation into the Murphy - Galindez case: "The report changes nothing basic in the known record of Murphy's part in the Galindez disappearance. The United States Government the department of juice, the department of state and other agencies know these basic facts. And the Dominican Espaillat, for whom Ernst is trying to "provide an alibi, is so deeply jnvolvecj in these basics tfiat he is afraid to come to the U.S. and testify or cooperate even though he hae been asked twice formally y Jimmy Hatlo Reservists May Get Vet Pension A nW law makes provision for a reservist drawing non disability retired pay for mili tary service to receive Veter ans administraton .compensa ton or pension if he waives an equal amount of his retired pay, S. T. Brannock, officer in charge, Veterans administra tion office, Medford, said to day. The law, which is widely misunderstood by retired re servists and other . interested persons, is Public Law 85-376 which became effective Slay 1.- Under previous laws, the wiver privilege was open to all retired members of the regular armed forces, but to reservists only if they were retired for physical disability, Brannock stated. The . new law now gives equal waiver privileges to all veterans receiving retired pay for either regular or reserve military service. Brannock emphasized, how ever, that reservists must be otherwise eligible for compen sation or pension to take ad vantage of the waiver. Full information on the law can be obtained at "the Sfedford VA office. Report Said Costly Life observes that the Ernst-Munson report was pre pared at vast expense over many months with "its main puropse" to refute Life's 1957 story the first to link the Galindez disappearance with the disappearance and death of U.S. Pilot Gerald Murphy. The basic point in the Ernst-Munson claim, accord ing to the magazine, hinges on timing. They say that the gas capacity of Murphy's plane, cruising speed and available time made it improbable that the trip to the Dominican Re public could be made within the known timetable. Life, us ing the same statistic, holds that the flight would have been possible. Maw Facts Turned Up Since publication of its original story, the magazine also says, new facts have turn ed up supporting their theory of the Galindez disappearance. The man who accepted $800 from Murphy for the rental of the airplane said that Bfur phy wanted the receipt made out in the name of "John Kane," an alias for John Frank. The grand jury inves tigating the Galindez case later indicted Frank for fail ing to register as an agent of the Dominican Republic. He has since been convicted on this charge. A young man named Har old French, a friend of Mur phy's has said that it was he who installed the extra gas tanks in Murphy's plane. He said that one of the men present at the airport when the plane was rented was Ispaillat. The Ernst-Munsion report says that the records fail to show that Espaillat was in the U.S. during that period. Now; in the Dominican Re public, Espaillat has refused to come to this country and testify. 4 CLUB -inj hews Pheanis Poultry Club The Phoenix Poultry Club met recently at the leader's home, Cloey Calkins, at which time they elected officers. S. attorney has reported he found no evidence in a 10 - month investigation to support charges that the gov ernment of Dominican strong man Gen. Rafael L. Trujillo was involved in the mysteri ous disappearance of Dr. Je sus de Galindez two years ago. The attorney, Morris L. Ernest, general counsel for 26 years to the American Civil Liberties Union, was em ployed by Trupillo to make the investigation after wide spread accusations that De Galindez had been kidnaped nd slain by Dominican agents. Lut Smi la 1IS8 De Galindez, a Spanish exile who once worked for Trujillo and had become his acknowledged political foe, was last teen entering a sub way near Columbia Universi ty, March 12, 1956. He had been an instructor at the university and had recently completed a doctoral thesis there in which he charged the Trujillo regime with more than 100 political assas sinations. Ernst's report suggested that De Galinder' disappear ance may have been connect ed with his financial opera tions as an agent for the Chamber Manager Talks on Business Don McNeil, manager of Jackeson county chamber of commerce, spoke on business attitudes at the weekly round table Monday at the Jackson hotel. Ha explained that business men hadn't been telling the business story and added that the chamber of commerce hopes to develops several eco nomic problem discussion groups this fall in Medford. Ha said the purpose of the groups would not be to solve problems but . to stimulate thinking regarding business climates in the valley and state. Following the noon lunch eon 17 persons in attendance told of new business develop ments in the area.
