Nurse Volunteers To Carry Louse Portland (UPI) A State Board of Health nurse has volunteered to let doctors plant several healthy louse nits or eggs on one of her arms in an attempt to raise one of them into a mature louse. v t The nurse is Mrs. Vivian Runte of Milwaukee, a nurse in the epidemiology section of the State Board of Health. A cage has been especially made for the experiment. It consists of a plastic cap with air holes, about the size of a half dollar, to be attached with tape. Doctors and nurses have not been able so far to find a mature louse despite hair by hair search of hundreds of heads. Many of the insects have been found in the nit and nymph stage but they cannot be identified by type until hatched. Some doctors suspect that the Multnomah county louse may be an entirely new type, Mrs. Runte will provide the "hatchery" environment nec essary for doctors to find out. The experiment probably will take about two weeks. Reports indicate that while the infestation apparently is subsiding in Multnomah county, it is gaining in Wash ington county in Oregon and Clark county in Washington Crime On TV Hits New High Los Ageles (UPI) Mur der, suicide, arson, torture, kidnaping and robbery reach ed an all-time high during the first week of May on sev en local TV stations, accord ing to the National Associa tion for Better Radio and Television.
