(International Soundphoto) Italian Hot Lips Plans Western Role ft? VERNON SCOTT Hollywood (UPI) Ros sano Brazzi, only Italian screes lover to flutter femi nine hearts since Rudolph Valentino, plans to forego his hot-lips roles to star in a western. Don't laugh. Brazzi starred in 35 Italian horse operas be fore Hollywood ever heard of him. "It's true," the handsome ptisano exclaims. "In Italy wa tail cowboys 'Butteri.' I pnt more time with the koraeg than leading ladies. We tv much beef there. "Our cowboys lead the m life as American cattle nm," h e continued. "Of ourt. we have no cattle rus tlinf. Italians just rustle ghickens." Lotw Roles Boring The graying star of 20th Century-Fox's "South Pacif ic," added, "I am bored with playing the great lover. In Italy, I am considered an ac tor, not a matinee idol. "My countrymen are fun ny" he said. "When I play villains in American movies they don't like it. They feel itliurts Italian prestige. They tink I should play a South American or a Frenchman' if I ki going to be a 'heavy.' Now that I have played boih good men and villains, I want to do comedy a -estern satire." Brazzi's success in Ameri can movies wasn't an over night occurance. Hollywood Flop Recalled "I came to Hollywood ten years ago and was the biggest flop in history," he said. "I played the father in "Little Women." They put heavy makeup on me, including a beard. When I saw the pic- Parity Plan Urged By Wheat Grower Washington (UPI) Floyd Root, president of the national Association of Wheat Growers, urged Congress to day to adopt a "domestic par ity plan" to bring commodity upplies into balance and de velop a long-range farm pro gram. Root, a Wasco, Ore., wheat grower, told the senate agri culture committee his organi sation backed the price sup port program worked out by the National Conference of Commodity Organization last December. The plan is sup ported , by the National Grange, but opposed by the administration and the Ameri can Farm Bureau. He said the plan would "move all wheat on a free j open market at an open mar ket price and return to the producer, through the use of marketing certificates, full parity of his share of the wheat consumed domestically for food." The plan actually is not a "two price" scheme, he said. because the farmer would sell ! all his wheat at the prevail- i ing price for the quality grain j he has produced. He would j itet certificates to assure pari-! ty prices only on his individ-l utl share of the domestic Jbaod market. ture I was happy no one would recognize me." The actor says he became a success as a scren Lothario because his approach to ro mantic scenes is different from American stars. "Brando, Kirk Douglas and Richard Widmark include bru tality in their love-making," he said. "I play it with gentleness and consideration for the lead ing iaay. Also, my .Latin ap pearance helped." Congressman Will Check Up On Trujillo Jr. Washington (UPI) A Republican congressman serv ed notice Tuesday he is not going to let Lt. Gen. Rafael Trujillo Jr. graduate from a U. S. Army school if he plays j hooky too much. At least, not j without the public getting an j earful about it. j Rep. Charles E. Brownson (R-Ind.) teed off on the fact j that young. Trujillo, given a leave of absence from the Fort Leavenworth, Kan., Ar my command school to have his tonsils removed, went to Hollywood to "rest up" after ward. While in Hollywood he lav ished gifts of expensive fur j coats and foreign cars on na tive American and imported j movie queens, despite the fact that he has a wife and six children back in the Do minican Republic where his father is president. Brownson indicated he doesn't think this kind of con duct would help an American officer graduate from the Leavenworth school. He said he was disturbed by reports that foreign policy considera tions sometimes play a big ger role in deciding who graduates than grades and at tendance. The congressman said he will demand a full list of grades and attendance records of foreign officers who are graduated from the school next month. 1 mmm Tennessee Ernie Has Longing For Ranch Br HAZEL K. JOHNSON Hollywood (UPI) Ten nesse Ernie Ford is another of those TV stars who despite a wagon-load of cash and prestige is fettered to the Hollywood area because of a weekly "live" show. But the deep-voiced singer says he is confident that NBC's latest technological ad vance whereby "live" shows can be pre-recorded on "tape" will free him geographically to spend more time at his two big interests golf and ranching. Ford has so arranged his schedule that he is free for golf three mornings a week and on the weekends. But Ford's tight schedule limits visits to his 540-acre ranch in northern California to the summer months when he's off the air. Longs for Ranch Visit "I've had the ranch for 2 1 2 years," Ford . explained, "and Dr. Graham to Speak A! Camas Valley Ashland Dr. Alva Gra ham, director of graduate study at Southern Oregon col lege, will deliver the com mencement address at Camas Valley, Ore., tonight. He will discuss "The Value of Our Education," pointing out the need for broad, gen eral educatiin as well as the importance of vocational preparation. J. Clyde Akey, Camas Val ley superintendent, was a student of Dr. Graham's at Lewis and Clark college when Dr. Graham was director of elementary education of the Portland institution. I'd like to spend more time there. Right now it's a good place to take the boys. But one day I may live there., "We raise Herefords and we plan to expand. There's a lot of timber on the Lake county property and We'll sell off some of it because we need more ground to culti vate. "But I won't be able to spend much time up there for a while," he went on. "Maybe this tape process will help. Right now when you've got a live weekly show you can't leave town for more than a day at a time. If you're live, that means you have to be within driving distance of the Burbank studio four days out of the week." Palsy Benefit Planned "This week is an excep tion," he noted. "I'm going up to the ranch over the week end in order to play a cereb ral palsy benefit on June 7 in Santa Rosa which is spon sored by Lake and two of its neighboring counties, Sonoma and Mendocino." - Ford rarely, plays benefits because of his time limita tions. "But with the ranch, I've been pretty closely associated with the county and I've wanted to do this." he said. "Besides, I've got some golf games lined up around there with some Ford dealers. I can't think of a better place to meet them than on the golf course. Ford Motor company is the singer's television sponsor.
