He wean modern clothes. No flowing robes. No turban. No scimitar. But the nickersnee llctb carries in his upper vest pocket (ball point, or copy pencil, whatever kind of writ 3&t tool he fancies) is fully 4S patent as the Great Cal if jewelled scimitar. BUT enough of Caliphs . ancient and modern .Let's $,tt tick to the subject of this jPct, which is Far Northern California in this Year of the "Watt Bucket. there's water everywhere. Tht little rivulets are chuck linj long merrily on their W J liicii uaic Willi tile (gtrtiin. The streams are $icstying along on their way to their" date with the rivers. SHASTA, on its northern ide. is a great white puff Ibail. The Trinity Alps are pint-size versions of their Eu ropean namesake. In Far, Northern California this year there's a lot of water lower down and a lot more water higher up waiting to come down and do its job when the time comes. It's a great year. It's a great year because there is plenty of water. The grass in the flat land pastures is lush and green, with fat cattle stand ing in it belly-deep. In the Far East, there is no pleasant er sight than fat cattle stand ing belly-deep in lush grass. Coming over the mountain, the roadsides are a riot of color. Lupin in flaming pur ple masses in the opener spots. In the Dunsmuir can yon, blue and white wild li lac lining the highway. And on down in the lower valley crops looking like crops ought to look. It's a sight for sore eyes. thought in conclusion. Up "here in Far Northern California (and in Southern Oregon) there will ALWAYS be water enough for our needs if we can SAVE UP for use in the summer the water that falls in the form or rain. or snow in the WINTER. Over the, year, plenty of water falls from the clouds to take care of our needs. The trouble lies in the fact that too much of it RUNS AWAY TO THE SEA in the winter and the spring. Our problem is to SAVE IT UP until the time comes when we need it. CALIFORNIA is torn by a bitter battle over water. There is NO NEED for Cal ifornia to fight over water. Enough water falls every year in California to take care of California's water needs. The trouble is that the bulk of it falls in the north., So it has to be saved up in the north. What Southern Calif ornia should do is to build the storage facilities that are needed in the north to save up the excess .water that falls SHADY COVE Graduation Date Changed By EVALYN P.
