The Mounties dumped Sac ramento, 7-1, to make it three straight over the Solons and hold onto their one-game lead. Phoenix took over second place with the Giants second come-fronvbehind win over Portland, 10-8. In other games, Spokane edged Salt Lake City, 4-3, and San Diego shaded Seattle, 3-2. Vancouver broke the con test with Sacramento wide open in the sixth inning, scor ing four runs on two home runs and a trio of singles. The Mounties added two more tallies in the next inning on a walk, stolen base, single and triple. The Solons scored their only run in the eighth when Jim Greengrass scored Carlos Paula from third with a sac rifice fly. Paul had opened the inning with a triple, the Solon's first hit off Gordin Sundin, who has now allowed only one run in his last 18 in nings on the mound. Sal Taomina slammed a two-run homer with two out in the last of the ninth at Phoenix to give the Giants Committee Begins Move To Cut Down on Number Of Olympic Participants Tokyo (Hi The Interna tional Olympic committee started a move today to make the Olympic Games tougher for individual athletes to enter. Avery Brundage, chairman of the IOC, announced after Thursday's session that a cut back was in the works which already had affected gymn astics, and possibly would in volve track, field and swim ming. The number of persons en tering gymnastics was cut from eight to five per team. Brundage said that the Inter national' Amateur Swimming federation was studying a pro posal for cutting down its number of entrants also while the International Amateur Athletic federation was con sidering doing the same thing in track. Brundage said that four of the five entrants in gymnas tics would score. The IAAF's decision on track and field would be made in Stockholm this summer, Brundage said. "When interest in the Olym pic Games is constantly grow ing, we must place a limit somewhere on the number of entries," Brundage said. "Building on Olympic village, for instance, to house 10,000 athletes would be prohibi tive." The track and field pro posal calls for a nation enter ing only one man in each event, plus two more if they met certain standards. The same swimming events would be held with a possible addition of a 400-meter relay for men and women. Some sunspots are believed to be 50,000 miles in diameter. their third straight over Port land. Al Jones then drew an intentional walk be fore Waters ended it with his single. Bill Werle was cred ited with the victory, his third against one defeat. Spokane also scored a last inning victory. A squeeze play bunt in the bottom of the ninth sent in Hisel Patrick from third to give the Indians their second straight win over Salt Lake, sending a large crowd of 6,648 fans home happy. The home club had tied the game at 3-3 with a single run in the eighth before the game winning bunt. Patrick was credited with the victory. Sanctioned and sponsored drag races will commence June 1 and continue there after on every other Sunday during June, July and Au gust. " Fine Clocking System Recent purchase of addi tional electronic timing equip ment provides the SOTA strip with a clocking system equal to the best in the na tion. Now, in addition to being able to clock vehicles for their top speed attained at the end of the one-fourth-mile strip, this new electronic timer will indicate the total elapsed time from start to finish of the race against the. clock. The Medford team will be without the services of Roger Johnson, miler, and Robert Hamilton, hurdler. Johnson broke a bone in his foot last week and Hamilton has been out some weeks with a badly pulled leg muscle. Both are out for the season.
