Council; at Session introduced were Mrs. Robert Lance and Mrs. Gordon Mek vold, past queens of the bethel; Miss Sharon Anderson, newly elected grand bethel repre sentative to Arizona, Bethel 38; Mrs. Alwin Setness, past guardian of the bethel; Mrs. William K. Suit, grand libra rian of Oregon; L. H. Man ning, grand inner guard of Oregon and a past associate guardian of Bethels 14 and 55. Mrs. C. D. Elhart, a past grand guardian of Oregon and past guardian of Bethel 22, Ashland, and Mr. Manning in stalled the guardian council. Assisting were Mrs. Stratton, installing guide; Mrs. Setness, installing marshal; Mrs. Wil liam K. Suit, installing chap lain; Mrs. William Askwith, junior past guardian, installing recorder; Miss Janet Kilbourn, musician of Bethel 38, in stalling musician. Elections were held during the meeting. Miss Linda War ren was elected honored queen; Miss Donna Burnett, senior princess; Miss Susan Hood, junior princess; Miss Rachel Hamilton, guide, and Miss Jeanette Purdy, marshal. Mrs. Setness presented Mrs. Askwith with a past guar dian's pin on behalf of the bethel, and in turn Mrs. Ask with presented Mrs. Meyer with the Beulah Faber travel ling guardian's pin. A practice was announced for 5 o'clock at the Masonic hall May 17; all officers and choir members are to attend. Initiation will be held May 22. After the meeting an adden dum observing the bethel's tenth birthday was presented. Ten girls placed lighted birth day candles on a decorated cake and gave a short history of each year. Refreshments were served Mrs. Leonard Warren and daughter, Linda; Mrs. E. V. Goff and daughter, Helen; Mrs. Sam Taylor and daughters, Patty and Carol; and Mrs. Charles Meyer and daughter, Charla-Jo. The table was attractively decorated with a maypole and flowers of pastel lavender and yellow, and lavender candles. Bou quets of lavender iris decor ated the dining room. The up stairs room was decorated with baskets of hawthorne and bouquets of roses. Albums Gardeners Meet In Rogue River Rogue River About 200 gardeners attended the recent spring meeting of Siskiyou district, Oregon Federation of Garden clubs, held here. Lau rel Garden club, of which Mrs. William A. White is pres ident, was hostess group. Films of the Woodriff Lily gardens at Harbor, Ore., were shown by Leslie Woodriff. Stanley Miranda. Mrs. Robert Roark and Mrs. Woodriff con ducted a discussion of prim roses, roses, iris and lillies. Colored films of a trip up the Salmon river were shown by M. E. Abel. Rogue River. Mrs. I. D. Fitzgerald, Med f ord, district director, intro duced Mrs. A. O. Floyd, Med ford, federation president; Mrs. E. G. Taylor, Talent, re cording secretary of the fed eration; Mrs. C. I. Bielman, Sutherlin, chairman of the bo tanical gardens committee; Mrs. I. F. Stearns, Oakland, year book chairman and also director of the Umpqua dist rict. Mrs. Harry O. Smith, Cave Junction, and Miss Claire Hanley, Jacksonville, past federation presidents, were honored. Mrs. Otto Nagel, Eagle Point, assistant district direc tor, took charge of the after noon program. Mrs. William Ford sang, accompanied by Mrs. W. Gail. Mrs. E. W. Shock was dec orations chairman, Mrs. Wil liam Paterson, luncheon chairman and Mrs. Claire Douglas, table decorations chairman. Accordion Pupils Present Recital Mrs. Rose Meadows spon sored an accordion recital at her home, 1000 Sunset ave nue, May 4 in observance of National Music week. Three students, Douglas Mann, Roger Wiley " and Lanny Bogenoff, received awards for lesson attendance and public performances. Others on the program were Randy Wiley, Walter Fitz gerald and Frank Fitzgerald. Mrs. Meadows, Mrs. Henry Nahss and Mrs. Lee Gobies played several numbers with the accordion orchestra. Refreshments were served. Election Slated At Club Session Officers will be elected at a meeting of the Welcome Wagon club to be held Thurs day, May 15, at 8 p.m. at Rogue Valley Country club. SP 2-8635 Installation Held By Phoenix Club At Last Session Phoenix Installation of officers to serve the coming year was held by Phoenix Garden club at the last meet ing, held at Phoenix Commun ity hall. Mrs. L. O. Penland con ducted the ceremony. New officers are Mrs. W. I. House, president; Mrs. O. . V. Poe, first vice president; Mrs. Lester M. Carr, secretary; Mrs. Mona Ferns, treasurer. Dessert was served by Mrs. Jesse A. Wilson, Mrs. A. E. Stephens and Mrs. Evelyn Hendrickson. Mrs. C. P. Ol son and Mrs. Robert Carr were guests. Following the business meeting, the group toured Hanleylands. - Spring Concert -Set For Thursday The vocal music depart ment of Medf ord High school will give the annual spring concert Thursday at 8 p.m. Presenting the program will be the choir, girls' chorus, mixed chorus, the Nonette and Madrigal groups. The choir, which has ap peared at many functions in Medford and which presented Rodgers' and Hammerstein's "Carousel" last fall, will be the featured group. Members will sing the three selections that they sang at the recent Southern Oregon District con test, and several other lighter numbers. One of these num bers, titled "Go Down, Death," uses the currently popular bongo drums as an accompaniment. Another se lection features a narrator and uses a text from the poem "God's Trombones". This number is titled "The Creation" and has Dennis Barr as narrator. The girls' chorus will also sing their, contest numbers, and will conclude their sec tion of the program with "Louisiana Hayride." The program will be free to the public, and it " is hoped that many will attend this yearly event. Director of music and stag ing is Lynn Sjolund, and the accompanist is Melody Pierce. Extension Unit Plans Ceremony Officers will be installed at a meeting of Hpward Home Extension unit to be held in the home of Mrs. Nick Gier, 2902 North Pacific highway, Thursday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m. The officers are Mrs. Verl G. Walker, chairman; Mrs. Howard Lind, vice-chairman; Mrs. John Benson, secretary; Mrs. Albert Stocks, treasurer. The project for the meeting is "Skin Care" and Mrs. Rob ert Ottoman and Mrs. Herbert Llngren will be leaders. Program Planned At Hanby School Thursday Night Gold Hill Hanby school's music department will pre sent a spring music festival Thursday, May 15 at 7:30 p jn. in the gymnasium. The one-hour program will consist of 35 minutes of vocal selections under the direction of Mrs. Norman Gail, and twenty-five minutes of band music directed by Charles Cook. Mrs. Walter Doherty, school pianist, will accom pany the two chorus groups. They are the Harmonettes, a group made up of sixth, sev enth and eighth grade stu dents, and the Singsters, which is a vocal group made up of fourth and. fifth grade youngsters. : Soloists for the Harmonettes will be Bob Turner and Og- den Kellogg. Soloists for the Singsters will be Patty Boye, Char maine Doherty, Richard Her rington, David White, Sybil Dyer, Linda Hilkery, Mike Mowry and Russell Lamb. 1 Songs vfrom "Okahoma" will be presented by the chor us groups. Also to be featured on the program will be numbers by the "Mixed Nine" group. Installation Set By Jackson PTA Jackson Parent-Teacher as sociation will install its next president, Mrs. Stuart Forbes, at a meeting Thursday, May 15, at 2:30 p.m., in the school gymnasium. Installing officer will be Mrs. John Benson. Other officers to be in stalled will be Mrs. Richard Phillips, vice-president; Mrs. Edith Baker, secretary, and Mrs. Ivan Lantz, treasurer. The program for the meeting will be in the form of a sixth grade graduation exercise, with sixth grade students and their mothers taking part in a capping ceremony. Also on the program will be musical numbers by the sixth grade chorus. At the executive board meeting last week, the group heard a convention report made by Mrs. Richard Phil lips . who said that scholar ships were greatly stressed at the convention. Hostesses for the meeting Thursday will be mothers of students in the first grade. A nursery will be provided at the school for the meeting. 4 Group to Ride In Grants Pass Medford Trail Riders will go to Grants Pass Sunday, May 18, to participate in a horse show. Concert Set Thursday Central Point Bands and chorus of the Central Point Junior High and Elementary schools will present their an nual Spring Concert, at the school gymnasium, Thursday, May 15 at 8 p.m. The program is under the direction of Harry Meyers, and will feature several num bers by the 96-piece Junior High band. The Cadet band, composed of beginners and intermediates in the elemen tary grades, will also present several numbers.. The Junior High, chorus, under the di rection of Ralph Humphrey," will sing several selections during the evening, both popu lar and classical. There is no admission charge and the public is in vited to attend. The program will last approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. f . Officers Inducted By Service Guild Newly elected officers of Susannah Wesley unit, Wes leyan Service Guild of First Methodist church, were in stalled by Dr. George Rose berry 'Monday evening. The service was held in the home of Mrs. Donald A. Faber, Central Point. The new president is Miss Dixie Dixon. Serving with Miss Dixon will be Mrs. Rich ard Stratton, vice president; Mrs. Carl G. Burk, secretary treasurer; and Mrs. Oliver P. Taylor, secretary of promo tion. Mrs. Eugene G. Ray, member" of the Woman's So ciety of Christian Service, was elected coordinator for the groups. Mrs. Gerald Sherman, the out-going president, an nounced plans for a picnic to be held June 9 at the home of Mrs. Taylor. Husbands and friends of the members will be entertained. . Sussannah Wesley unit is one of three in Medford and contributes to the mission work being carried on by the Woman's Division of Chris tian Service in 32 countries and the United States. A gift of bed linens and towels is being prepared for the new Manley Wing of the Metho- dist Home - in Salem. The Methodist Home is for older citizens and is a project of the Oregon -Woman's Society of Christian Service and Wesley an Service Guilds. The new wing will be dedicated June 4. back riders are invited to go. Trail Riders held a meeting May 10 at the Willow Springs school house, and plans for these events were made. Phone SP 2-6428 Final Meeting Set For PTA J eff erson Parent - Teacher association will meet for the last time this year on Friday, May 16 at 2:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium, according trx Mrs. John Kent, president. All students will be dismissed at 2 p.m., and teachers will remain in their rooms for 30 minutes to allow individual conferences with parents. Installation of officers for the school year 1958-59 will take place, Mrs. Kent states. These women, who were elected at the April meeting of the group, are Mrs. Walter Olson, president; Mrs. Charles Fox. vice - president: Mrs. Ward Lampkin, secretary; and - Mrs. E. W. Ingram, treasurer. - The Jefferson school orches tra will present a short pro gram under the direction of Mrs. Audrey Bartlett. Moth ers of children in the sixth grade will be honored at a "graduation ceremony," as these students will be going into junior high school next fall, th out-going president reports. Mothers of first grade youngsters will furnish re freshments, and . baby sitting for pre-school age children will be available in the building. Plans will be announced for the annual pre-school visit for children who expect to enter Jefferson school next fall. This meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21 at 2 p.m. The prospective first-graders and their mothers will meet with first grade teachers, the principal, and PTA members at this time, to acquaint the children with the building and explain school procedures to the parents.
