Monkey Shines for Mother!

atch this funny monkey make faces while he shines your shoes!
The big grin he wears makes him perfect for this chore, as you can
slip your whole hand inside his mouth and use his head for a
shoe-shine mitt.
The head is made of brown felt or other material, and his face of tan or
light gray. Make a pattern for the head on a six-inch square piece of paper,
folded in half. Mark it off into one-inch squares and draw the outlines
through the squares as shown in Fig. 1.
Draw the face on a piece of paper five-inches square, marked in the same
way, so you can draw the outlines as in Fig. 2. Punch small holes in the
paper to make eyes and nostrils. Cut on the outlines, unfold, and they will
look like A and B in the diagram. Now pin the patterns to the felt and cut,
marking eyes and nostrils with chalk through the holes in the pattern. Fold
the face in half to cut the curved slit for the mouth. Sew small white buttons
on with green thread for eyes. Make the nostrils with a few stitches of black
thread. Put the face on the head with lower edges even. Clip or pin together
while you sew them. Whip the face to the head with matching thread, using
small stitches all the way around.
When this is done, Mr. Monkey is ready to go' to work! Give him to
Mother for a late Mother's Day gift!

The Magic Paper

nfold a double page of a newspaper. Cut a strip three inches wide
from the long edge of the paper. Now, bring the two ends of the
strip together to form a ring, but before fastening the ends with
transparent tape or paste, twist one of the ends over twice. Now when the
ring is made it will have two kinks in it. Next, take a sharp scissors and
make a cut half-way between the edges of the strip and start cutting and
continue until you have gone completely around the ring. What do you think
the result will be? Two separate rings? No! That's not the right answer.
Try it and see. You'll be surprised.
