Roseburg was selected as the place for this year's con ference so librarians and trus tees of Oregon might inspect the organization and opera tion of the state's newest and most modern county library system. The annual conference will commence with a meeting of the association's , executive board tonight. The In ternational Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union's negotiating committee has pre sented a new 25-cents-an-hour wage increase demand to Ha waii's strike-bound sugar in dustry. . The new proposal, termed by ILWU's President Harry Bridges as "final," followed intensive bargaining sessions held Wednesday in an effort to settle the 104-day-old strike. It calls for a two-year con tract in which a 16 cent raise would be effective immediate ly and another 7 cents added as of Feb. 1. - The ILWU package further seeks an - upgrading of top bracket workers amounting to about $500,000, or an increase of 2 cents an hour per worker. Tuesday, the union over whelmingly rejected a man agement offer of 15 cents an hour. voted to questions concerning library trustees .and the re sponsibilities of library boards in' the government of public and county libraries. A guest at this meeting will be Mrs. Merlin Moore, of. Fayette ville, Ark., president of th American Association of Li-, brary Trustees. Mrs. Moor also is to be the featured speaker at' the Friday v. ning banquet. Other topics to be discussed at general conference sessions are "Personnel Problems and Training for Librarianship," and "New Orbits for Oregon Libraries." A breakfast for school librarians will be held Saturday morning, and the concluding affair on the pro, gram will be Saturday after noon luncheon at the Rose burg Country dub.
