Fog Horns Fof Fire Alarms Studied Pittsboro, N. C. 0?) This town is quite a distance from the sea, but foghorns may soon bellow here. The town council is con sidering the use of this type of noise as a fire alarm. Two of the horns are being in stalled for a test. The present alarm Is a siren. And because its sound cannot be distinguished from that of an ambulance or po lice car, members of the vol unteer fire department don't always realize they are being summoned. Mayor W. Lea Powell is an enthusiastic supporter of a change in the system. Last week he was unable to rouse the fire department and had to put out a blaze at his home all by himself.
