They reported no damage. - Ditch Day The annual ditch day for seniors at Rogue River High school will be held Friday, May 9. The Alabama Democratic primary for governor, however, ap peared headed for a run-off. In Ohio, Republican Gov. C. William O'Neill and Demo crat Michael V. DiSalle won gubernatorial nominations and the right to face each other in the November elections for the second time in two years. Both had been favored to win their party's nominations. Run-Off This Month Alabama's Attorney Gener al John Patterson and Judge George Walker paced a field of 14 segregationist candidates in that state's Democratic gubernatorial primary. A run off between the two will be held later this month for the nomination, which virtually assures election. Five of Indiana's incumbent congressmen won handily against party foes and the other six were renominated without opposition. Renomin ated in party contests were Democratic Rep. Ray J. Mad den in the 1st District, and Republican Reps. Cecil Har den, 6th; William Bray, 7th, Ralph Harvey, 10th, and Charles Brownson, 11th. O'Neill trounced former Cincinnati Mayor Charles P. Taft in the top Ohio contest. Taft said he entered the pri mary merely as a standby can didate after O'Neill suffered a mild heart attack in January. DiSalle Defeats Five , DiSalle, former Truman ad ministration official, defeated five other candidates,' includ ing Mayors Anthony Cele brezze of Cleveland and M. E. Sensenbrenner of Columbus. All 14 Alabama guberna torial candidates had cam paigned as fighting segrega tionists and there was some racial tension during the bal loting. , Four Negroes were arrested in racially tense Montgomery, Ala., on a charge of loitering at the polls. , Patterson, who led in the DO NOT DISTURB London (IP) Contractors suspended all repair work in the Naval and Military club here after a woodpigeon de cided to nest in the ceiling. Breakfast 6:30 on Drivers Licenses Suspended Listed Salem The department of motor vehicles has released names of 432 drivers whose licenses were ordered sus pended during the period be ginning April 23 and ending April 29'. Length .of suspension var ies, depending on charges in volved, recommendation of court, discretionary action by the department or require ments of Oregon law. The department said some of the licenses involving financial responsibility and court rec ommendations may have been re-instated after suspension was ordered. The department warned drivers that the penalty for driving while suspended is a jail sentence of no less than two days and up to six months and there may be imposed a fine up to $500. Under licen sing procedures, this will also result in an additional year of suspension. Medford, Oregon, Wednetdey, May 7, IMS II Deadline for Auto Contest Extended The deadline ef the contest to estimate the value of the automotive business to the local economy for 1957 has been extended to 6 p.m. Sat urday, May 10, according to a spokesman for- the program. The contest is a part of the "Keep Medford's Economy Rolling You Auto Buy Now" campaign currently under way in this area to stimulate consumer buying. - Representatives of the auto dealers offered the following information to aid the public in arriving at an estimate: Nearly 400 people were em ployed by the dealers on a regular basis during 1957, and an estimated 2,000 new cars were sold in Medford last year, with more tTian twice that number of used cars. In addition, the source revealed that at least one of the larger dealerships reported a vol ume of more than $3 million. There are a total of 14 franchised dealers in the Med ford area who should be con sidered in arriving at an esti mate, it was pointed out.
