r T 14 MAIL TRIBUNE, MedforJ, Oregon, Sunday, April 27, 1958 Mental Health Week Gets Recognition In Jackson County Mental Health Week, being observed nationally from April 27 to May 3, is also re ceiving recognition in Jack son county. Several of the service clubs are making some presentation of it either dur ing this week or at some other time in the near future. The Child Guidance Clinic association plans to persent two films that show the nor mal development of younger children. One is entitled, "The Terrible Twos and the Trust ing Threes", the other "The Frustrating Fours and the Fascinating Fives". They will be shown during the week in both Medford and Ashland. Committee To Meal Friday noon there will be a meeting of the Mental Halth committee of Jackson county In the conference room of the Health unit at the court house. Dr. Harry Dan ielson will present a plan for the establishment of a limited family counselling service on a trial or demonstration basis. The Mental Health commit tee is an informal group which tries to coordinate com munity efforts on behalf of mental health and cooperate with the Mental Health asso ciation of Oregon in support of the state mental hospitals. The committee made the stu dies and enlisted the commu nity support leading to the establishment of the Child Guidance Clinic, in 1953. The committee recently has been studying ways in which fam ily counselling service might be provided for the county. To Name Officers New officers of the Mental Health committee will also be chosen at the Friday meeting. The retiring chairman is the Rev. Thomas McCamant. Miss Celia Walker is the secretary. In the 4V years of its exist ence the Child Guidance Cli nic has become one of the principal agencies on behalf of the mental health of the community. It is a phychiatrie clinic in which emotionally maladjusted children and their parents are afforded the joint services of a psychia trist, psychologist and psychi atric social worker. Thomas Goff is the full time social Prisoner Uses Horse for Freedom Parchman, Miss. (IP! Au thorities searched Friday for a prisoner who galloped to freedom on a horse. Trusty Clifton Palmer, 50, a convicted murderer, was missing at Thursday morn ing's cell check in the state prison here. A horse was missing from the prison barn. Later, the horse was lo cated about five miles from the prison where Palmer had apparently switched to faster means of transportation. ' Prison Superintendent Bill Harple said Palmer probably persuaded guards at the gate that he and the horse had duties to perform outside the walls. Augusta, Ga. Weed, who worked his way up from the mining pits, also was chosen to head the Chile Copper Co., Chile Explora tion Co. and Andes Copper Mining Co. Paris Campaign To Chase Pigeons Flops Paris (IP) City police frankly admitted Friday that their five-month-old "drugged grain" campaign to rid Paris of its pigeon nuisance was a total flop. Thousands of drowsy pi geons which had nibbled grain soaked in a special sleeping potion were gathered up and released in areas far from the city. But practically all the birds recognized by bands at tached to their legs are back at their favorite roosting spots in Paris, police con fessed. It is illegal to kill them.
