Solons, Mount.es, Bees Victors in PCL By GENE BRYANT United Press Sports Writer Portland, striving valiantly to take Seattle's "rainy city" title away, if it has not al ready done so, had another washout Thursday night as the Beaver-San Diego contest went down the drain. It was the eighth out of 11 games rained out in the Northwest city so far this sea son, t Meanwhile, in other Pacific Coast League cities, Sacra mento dumped Phoenix, 9-4, Vancouver edged Spokane, 2-1, and Salt Lake battered Seattle, 10-1. Vancouver's win put the Mounties a half-game ahead of Portland, although the Bea vers retained the top spot in the percentage column with a 3-0 record. The Mounties are now 6-2, two games ahead of third-place Phoenix. Tight Pitching Duel Mel Held hooked up with Spokane's Chuck Page in a tight pitching duel at Van couver as Vancouver evened the series at two games apiece. Held allowed the In dians only four hits while his teammates collected seven off Page. Vancouver scored a single run in the second inning but the Indians came back to tie it up with a run of their own in the sixth. The Mounties went ahead for good in their half of the sixth when Owen Friend singled home Joe Durham from second. Jim McDaniel and Dick Stuart each belted a three-run homer at Seattle as the Bees buried the Rainiers in an easy win. All told, Salt Lake collected 12 hits off three Seattle hurlers to give Jack La Mabe his first win against one defeat. Art Fowle,r was charged with the loss, his first against one victory. Phoenix Trips on Errors Seattle had one consolation in defeat the Rainiers broke their string of successive scoreless innings at 24 when Jaun Delis scored from third on a wild pitch in the open ing inning. At Phoenix, Sacramento made the most of four Giant errors to make it two in a row over the Arizona club. Solon pitcher Marshall Bridges struck out 10 Phoe nix batsmen to gain the vic tory. Rookie shortstop Ray Web ster drove in three runs with a single, double and homer to lead the winners' hitting attack while Bridges chipped in with a triple and two sngles. The possession limit will be 60 in any seven con secutive days. Reason for the increase is that the commission plans to treat the lake in the lat ter part of September to kill existing fish and then restock it with trout. Com mission policy is that when a lake is to be treated the bag limit is raised so all the trout possible can be caught before fish in the lake are killed. 'Fish lake is located near the headwaters of the Rogue river in Jackson county. There will be no mini mum or maximum size limit for trout taken from the lake.
