He kept call ing it 'scraps'." The abdicating world citi zen crusader, Davis, pointed out that it would be just one decade, come May 25. since he began crusading. He said that if he can get back his citizenship, which he renoun ced, "I intend to be a respecta ble American citizen." He returned home under an immigrant visa from Naples. But he pointed out that his visa application states he is a resident of New York. He said that although he is classified as a resident alien, it is hard to immigrate into a place in which you are already listed as a resident. Jailed Often Davis estimates that in his 10 years as a world citizen he did time in "a dozen or so prisons and ship's brigs." He said he has no regrets what soever: "My renunication was in no way an act of disloyalty. America is part of the world. In the space age, we're all world citizens." However, he said that "my one-man crusade is over." Standing a little to one side at this point was a distinguish ed looking elderly gentleman with flowing white hair who looked disturbingly familiar. In his hand he held a state ment from "the world citizens of the U. S." welcoming Davis home. Then I saw " is name, among 12 others, at the bot tom: Dr. Ilsley Boone, clergy man. I had not recognized him because I had never seen him dressed. When I knew him, he was indeed a clergyman but also was leader of the Ameri can nudist movement. Now he's switched causes. Fight Scheduled San Francisco OP) Mem bers of the week-old Califor nia Forest Products Shippers Association prepared today to open their campaign against a proposed Southern Pacific rate decrease which they claimed would flood Califor nia with Oregon lumber. The association's first step was to hire a lawyer. Then it planned to open a drive to raise funds from all Califor nia lumber products manufac turers for the protest fight, to be carried to the Interstate Commerce Commission. The group was organized in Redding last week. NO ANTE London (IP) The London Anti-Vice Council said today it is going out of business for lack of support and will give its funds to the Sunshine Home for Blind Babies. Form ed three years ago, the coun cil has tried to combat prosti tution in the city by rehabili tating the girls concerned. Mrs. Doug Whittaker enter tained April 3 with a party in honor of the ninth birth day of her daughter, Cathy. The birthday cake was baked by Mrs. Robert Fremd and was centered with a doll, the cake forming the skirt of her dress. Ice cream and punch were served with the cake to Miriam Barron, Bar bara and Carleen De Clerck, Louise and Elizabeth Johnson, Edrith Cain, Judith and Lin da Fremd, Marsha Simmen, the guest of honor and her brother, Darren. The first anniversary of be ing affiliated with the Rogue Valley Council was celebrat ed by Brownie Scout Troop 223 at their regular meeting April 11. Phono graph records were played by the group. The eighth birthday of Do lores Luper was celebrated April 13 with a birthday din ner. Present were her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Haynes; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Luper, and her brother, Dennis. On April 14 a birthday party was given by her mother. Hats, favors and candy were given to each guest and birthday cake, ice cream and punch were served to Donna Burns, Gail Gould, Linda Frenmd, Gayel Ward, Celia White, Yvonne Vande Weghe, Dennis Luper, and Mrs. Fred Haynes. Mr., and Mrs. Doug Whit taker and family returned re cently after visiting relatives in Magna, Utah. While there they received the privilege of visiting the Mormon Temple, and attended the' Latter Day Saints General Conference held in the Tabernacle, both in Salt Lake City. Mrs. 1 C. Whittaker returned with them and will be a guest in the Whittaker home for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Vic Vande Weghe and cnildren called at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Florin Vande Weghe and Mrs. Agnes Clark Sunday at which time they celebrated Mrs. Florin Vande Weghe's birth day. Mrs. Joe Caston, and Mrs. Frank Ayris drove to Ash land recently to call on Mrs. Evan Maupin, who suffered a stroke recently and was a patient at the Ashland Gen eral hospital. Since then, Mrs. Maupin has improved suffic iently to be moved to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Maupin. Sunday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Ceccato and family were Ceccato's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ceccato, and his cousin, Mrs. Don Hilton, and children of Mt. Shasta. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Benson and daughter, Janet, visited Sunday in Ft. Jones at the home of Mrs. Alice Freshour, mother of Mrs. Benson. Mrs. Charles Sprague and Mrs. R. H. Smith made a busi ness trip to Medford Wednes day. Mr. and Mrs. Deastill Bern heisel and family of Oakdale were week end guests at the Ozzie Bernheisel home. Karen Bryan, daughter of - Mr. and Mrs. Deastill Bernheisel, who has been staying at the Ozzie Bernheisel home, returned to Oakdale with her parents. Mrs. Fred Haynes, Mrs. Gil bert Luper, and Mrs. M. G. King made a business trip to Ashland Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Ernie De- Avilla and boys of Yreka were dinner guests at the Wilcox home Tuesday eve ning. The Bridge club met Thurs day, April 17, at the home of Mrs. Fred Haynes. High score went to Mrs. Frank Ohlund, second high to Mrs. William Wiley and low to Mrs. M. G. King. Others playing were Mrs. Ernest Spannaus, Mrs. Frank Graves, Mrs. Art Blan chard and Mrs. H. G. Thomp son. A birthday dinner was giv en Sunday night for Roger Smith at their home at the Mount Crest Ranch by his wife, Nancy. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Alvin McMasters and sons of Hornbrook, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Smith and daughter. Joan, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sprague and family and Mr. and Mrs. William Smith and son. The Red Cross First Aid classes held at the school house for the past several weeks were finished on April 16, with most of the original enrolees being awarded their certificates. Illness prevented several from completing the course. A gift was presented to Instructor William Tallis by the entire group. Cookies, coffee and tea were served by Mrs. Don Ward, Mrs. Robert Trinca, Mrs. Rodney Eastman, Mrs. William Wiley and Mrs. Audomar De Clerck. Mr. and Mrs. Audomar De Clerck and daughters, Bar bara and Carleen, Paula East man, Janet Covin, and Miriam Barron drove to Ashland Fri day night to roller skate. PROFESSOR DIES Chapel Hill, N.C. (IP) Dr. William E. Rsenstengel, 61, professor of education at the University of North Carolina, died Wednesday. He was a native of Missouri where he was a former state school sup erintendent.
