I The Medical (1ft. .LA? . . I The Diabetic With a ' Severe Insulin Reacfion My old friend, Dr. Edgar A. Haunz, of Grand Forks, N.D., has just written me of the tHjRPa many cases he I f Js- I has seen of Y s I severe diabe tes in wnicn the person was taking large doses of insulin. Per haps one day he forgot' to eat enough Dr. Alvarez food to bal ance the big dose of insulin, and, as a result, he went into a woozy state in which he didn't know what he was do ing, and worse yet, didn't realize the danger he was in. In several of these cases the man got in his car and drove wildly until he had an acci dent, and in several such cases the person was killed. All persons with severe diabetes who are taking large doses of insulin should remember that when they are not feeling per fectly well they should not be driving a car. - Incidentally, there are many other people nowadays who, when taking a large dose of some tranquilizing drug, or some powerful anti histamine, or some strongly sedative medicine jhould not be driving. The results of go ing to sleep at the wheel can be tragic. A few unhappy people write, asking what is multiple myeloma, and is there any new treatment for it. I am sorry to have an answer that multiple myeloma is some thing like a scattered cancer which affects many of the bones of the body. Usually, it attacks persons past middle age, and it produces pain, anemia, and weight loss. I was just reading a good article on the subject by Drs. J. J. Kenny, and W. C.
