The annual meeting of Jackson County Public Health association will be held Fri day, April 25, in the Jackson hotel at 12 noon. Mrs. Florence Scott, nutri tion consultant to the ma ternal and child health sec tion of the Oregon State Board of Health will be fea tured speaker. There will be a short bus iness meeting before Mrs. Scott speaks. Changes in the by-laws will be voted on and the year's activities will be reviewed. The most important change in the by-laws will be the changing of the name from the Jackson County Pub lic Health association to the Jackson County Tuberculosis and Public Health associa tion. For those people who are unable to attend the luncheon, a cordial invitation is extend ed to come to the lecture, which will start at. approxi mately 12:30. The public is invited and reservations may be made by calling the Public Health association office at SPring 2-4818. Student Receives Master's Degree Miss Janet Louise Coyle, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. C. L. Coyle, 708 Park street, has re ceived her master of science degree in animal husbandry at University of Minnesota, it was announced last week by the university. Morris, 128 Mistletoe street, announce the engagement of their daughter Judith Lynne to John Henry Thompson, Jr., son of Mrs. Mildred Thompson Cincinnati, Ohio. Miss Morris is employed by the telephone company at Sac ramento, Calif. She is a grad uate of Medford Senior High School. Mr. Thompson is with the U.S. Army Signal corps and is stationed at Sacramento. The wedding is set for June 14. degree. She is doing research in genetics in animal husband ry there. Oetken, 110 Main street, Phoenix, was announc ed recently by the parents of the bride-elect, Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Ainsley. Miss Ainsley attended Se rena, 111., grade schools and is a graduate of Ottawa High school. She is employed at St. Joseph's Health Resort at Wedron, 111. Mr, Oetken at tended Medford schools and is a graduate of Medford High school. He was employ ed by the Big Y market prior to enlisting in the United States Afr Force. He is now stationed at Edwards Air Force base in California. The wedding will be held June 22 at the Christ Epis copal church in Ottawa. Gardeners Plan District Session Siskiyou district, Oregon Federation of Garden clubs, will hold the annual spring district meeting Wednesday, April 30, at Rogue River in the V.F.W. hall. Laurel Gar deners will be hostesses for this event, which will honor the past state presidents from the Siskiyou district. They are Mrs. Harry O. Smith, Cave Junction, and Miss Claire Hanley, Jacksonville, and the present state presi dent, Mrs. A. O. Floyd of Medford. Reservations for the lunch eon may be made before April 26, with Mrs. I. D. Crater School To Give Concert Central Point The seventh annual spring concert by the Crater High school depart ment of music will be pre sented Friday, April 25 at 8 p.m., in the Crater High school gymnasium. No ad mission will be charged and all interested are invited to attend. Groups which will perform include the band, choir, dance band and glee club. The program will be varied. Among selections will be Mozart's "Impressario Over ture," which will be played by the band. An original composition for the choir will be "Night Herding Song," by Dale Barker. Ashland Teachers To Marry in June Ashland Mr. and Mrs. Charles MacDougall of Fal mouth, Mass., have announc ed the engagement of their daughter, Miss Natalie: Mac Dougall of Medford, to Don ald Lowrance, son of "Mr. and Mrs.. R. C. Lowrance of Junc tion City, Ore. Miss MacDougall and Mr. Lowrance both teach at Ash land Junior High school. A June wedding is planned. Miss Natalie MacDougall (Classic photo) Final Concert Set For May 4 The Rudie Sinfonietta will give the final concert in the 1957-58 season for Jackson County Civic Music associa tion when they appear here Sunday afternoon, May 4 at the Medford Senior high school. The group is made up of 11 instrumentalists, includ ing three soloists. Robert Rudie, conductor soloist, is a violinist. Others who will . be featured are E w a n . Harbrecht, soprano; Robert Kirkham, baritone, and Cynthia Otis, harpist. For eleven years Mr. Rudie was concertmaster and assist ant conductor of the Okla homa City Symphony orchestra. Visitors Attend Convention Here Miss Carol Newland and Miss Martha Hendrickson of Eugene were recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Vaughn, 929 Kenyon street. Miss Newland is a for mer Medford resident and is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Newland. Mr. Newland was track coach at Medford Senior High school and now is vice-principal of North Eu gene High school. Miss Newland and Miss Hendrickson participated in Job's Daughters 34th annual meeting held here last week end. Medford AAUW Announces Second Fellowship Grant Mrs. A. J. Johnson, presi dent of the Medford branch, American Association of Uni versity Women, recently an nounced that a second named fellowship grant of $500 had been awarded during the cur rent year. This second grant named "The Medford Story Hour Fellowship Grant" was made possible through the sponsorship of the children's story hour by the Big Y Super Markets, Inc. This is the first year that the Medford branch has been able to give two grants. The first named fellowship grant was announced at the annual Fellowship Luncheon in February and was named "The Memorial Fellowship Grant" "in honor of three re cently deceased members, Mrs. Aletha Vawter, Mrs. Frank Roberts and Mrs. Walter G. Garner. One of the grants will be used to provide graduate study in the United States for a for eign woman scholar and the other grant will be used to provide graduate study for a United States woman scholar. The children's study hour is presented over radio station KYJC each week day Monday through Friday at 3:45 p.m. Beginning April 28, the child rens' story hour will be pre sented at a new time, 3:15 p. m. each Monday through Fri day. The children's story hour has been sponsored by the Medfor AAUW branch for four years and has proved to be very popular with the pre school and grade school chil dren, the branch reports. The radio committee, consisting of Mrs. C. B. Collins, chairman, Mrs. R. M. Mayer, Mrs. Edwin W. Gebhard, Mrs. Harold Cook and Mrs. Lawrence Tweedy, make sure that a story is chos en and a member is available each day to read, and also "fills in" when an emergency arises. The readers of the stor ies are members of AAUW who volunteer. Regular read ers during the current year have been Mrs. T. P. Barss, Mrs. Fred Burich, Mrs. G. F. Da vis, Roseburg attorney and former Medford resident was honored. Mr. Davis was select ed by the Douglas county OEA officers for outstanding serv ice to the cause of education in 1957. The award was given for his work in establishing two schools for retarded children in the county. Mr. Davis, former district attorney in Douglas county, was president of the Roseburg Kiwanis club at the time it started work on a plan to or ganize the schools in Roseburg and Gardiner. He is chairman of the Douglas county juve nile advisory committee, which works with the juvenile section of circuit court and the county juvenile office in studying needs of dependent children and means of com batting delinquency.
