The Cavemen, setting two meet records and knotting another, collected 108 points. Medford was second with 6912, Crater had and Aoseburg 16. Grants Pass won 10 first places and tied for another. Medford captured the other three blue ribbons and medals and shared the time. Javelin, Jump Marks Glen Winningham, state and Hayward relay javelin champ, was below his top ef fort so far this year but his 193 feet-6 inches cast for the Cavemen, shattered . the Ro tary mark he set in 1957. Fred Thomas, Grants Pass, victor in the high jump of the serv ice club rivaly for the third straight year, leaped 6 feet 1 inch to eclipse his 1956 rec ord of 5-11. Eagle Point and Illinois Valley each had triple win- Red Raider Net Team Bills Tour Ashland A three day ten nis tour is on tap this week for the Southern Oregon col lege tennis crew. The Red Raiders have matches against Oregon Frosh Monday in Eu gene, Linfield Tuesday at Mc Minnville, and Pacific in For est Grove on Wednesday. Raider netmen to date have won two matches and lost three on a schedule that has included the University of Fortiana, sacramemo oiate, Shasta JC and Humboldt State. The Red Raiders are cham- nions of the Oregon Collegiate conference and have held the crown for the past three years. With their present line up they are favorites to re peat. Isaacs No. 1 Coach Skip 'Graham has veteran Bill Isaacs as his num ber one man in the singles di vision. For doubles Isaacs couples with Bob'Gouley the number two man on the squad. Bruce Merrill plays number three and Jack Jacobson num ber four with both boys team ing for the second doubles team. The fifth man has been picked from between John Russell, Dick Clark, and Oris Thef ord. Russell ' and Clark have been battling in particu lar for the fifth spot on the traveling squad for next week. Th firsts by Christian were the only ones for the Eagles. Mike Hanby nabbed the pole vault and John Davis the mile for IV. (IP) Mis soula got the jump on other Pioneer league teams Satur day by shutting out visiting Idaho Falls 6-0 in an after noon encounter played here at Campbell field. Chuck Rembert finished be hind Maryott in the highs but led his teammate to the tape in the lows. Medford had a one-two punch in the quarter-mile run which was won by Mike Rus sell in :51.8. Ron Reich of the Tornado was second. Jones, Peeble Tie High hurdles and the dash es in the meet were run in heats. Runners were indivi dually timed to determine winners Jim Peeble, Grants Pass, and Johnny Jones, Med ford, won separate heats in :10.5 to tie for first in the 100-yard sprint. Grants Pass victors includ ed Steve Anderson in the mile, Marven Terry in the 220, Walt Morrison in the 80, Mike Sparlin in the pole vault,' Peebles, Terry, Rem bert and Maryott teaming in the relay and Mike Rose in the discus. Sophomore Leonard Griggs won the broad jump for Med ford, edging Paul .Lindquist, Grants Pass, by two inches. Sparlin, who vaulted 12-8 in the Hayward relays a week ago, managed just 12 feet in competition yesterday but cleared 12-6 after missing that height on his three allowed tries. John Harvey, Medford, sailed 11-9 for second. Jerry Shults, high jump runner-up for Medford, equalled Thom ases old mark of 5-11 and John Burns, Crater went 5-10. Anderson passed Mark Nor ton, Medford, on the back stretch and had better kick at the finish to win by 20 to 25 yards in the mile. Norton was second two seconds behind Anderson and Roger Johnson was right behind for third. Novice Division Grants Pass had four sec onds, six thirds, six fourths and four fourths. Medford had five seconds, four thirds, one fourth, two ties for fourth and two fifths. Crater got a second place, six thirds, a fourth, two ties for fourth and three fifths. Roseburg had two sec onds, a fourth, and three ties for fourth. Contrary to a Friday report from Grants Pass there was a novice division in which no score was recorded. Larry Korea took the shot put, and Bob McKnight the 100 and 220. Friday claim ed the 80 for Roseburg. Pitcher Dick Meredith won his own game in the five-canto second scuffle. He slapped a home run in the second panel for the only score. IIP) Ed die Southern anchored the Texas Longhorns to a new na tional intercollegiate record of 3:09.1 in the mile relay Saturday as a total of eight university division marks were broken in the 33rd an nual Kansas Relays. Southern, clocked in an un official 44.9 seconds for the final quarter mile, teamed with Drew Dunlap. Jimmy Holt, and Wally Wilson to better the mark of-3:09.4 that California set in 1941. Five Apprehended On Holdup Charge Portland (IP) Police round ed up three of -five persons believed involved in the arm ed holdup of a Portland bus driver Friday. The missing suspects are girls, police said. Two of the youths were charged with armed robbery. The third boy is 16 years old, officers said, and will be bound over to juvenile court. Charged with armed rob bery were Clarence Raymond McGregor, 19, Coos Bay, and Albert Bradley, 18, of Port land. McGregor is on parole from a burglary conviction and Bradley is a parolee from MacLaren school for boys. The five used a black for eign sports car stolen from Coos Bay. in the 'robbery, which netted about $29 . from driver Glen Wairk, 35, of Sher wood. The car was. wrecked by the youths and recovered by police. Ted Kolberg and L e r o y Roberts slugged singles for Roseburg and there were two errors and a hit batter in the fourth inning when the Indians got their third run. Medford tabulated in the seventh inning on a walk to Tom Laurance, a single by Ron Peery and an error. Beamer held the Tornado to two hits in the scrape with Larry Brown getting one of them. He fanned 12 batsmen and walked five. Laurance hurled a four-hitler for Medford, striking out six and walking five. Texas Pianist Tops In Russia Moscow OP) Van Cli- burn, prize-winning American pianist from Kilgore, Tex., made a triumphant debut as soloist Friday night at a pack ed concert in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. Hundreds of music lovers were turned away from the doors and the hall was so crowded that additional seats were set up in the aisles. A distinguished audience in cluding American Ambassa dor Llewelyn Thompson, composer Dmitri Shostako vich and pianist Sviatoslav Richter heard Cliburn play works by Beethoven, Proko fiev, Mozart and the Ameri can composer Samuel Barber. At the end of the perform ance he received a standing ovation. Some of his young female admirers tossed bou quets of flowers on to the stage. Cliburn gives a final con cert today before he goes on i a two-week tour of the sov iet Union. Beating Believed Cause Of Injury Salem (IP) A 17-year-old boy from MacLaren school at Woodburn was reported in good condition here today-following surgery for a kidney innjury believed to have been received in a beating by three other boys at the school Wed nesday night. Superintendent Amos Reed said the boy, Charles White, Grants Pass, will not be per manently injured. Scene of the beathjg was the security cottage gymnasi um, but conflicting stories have made it impossible to de termine exactly what hap pened, Reed" said. A MacLaren employe, James Patrick Larson, Salem, who was in charge of the gym, has been suspended, Reed said. The three boys involved in the beating are confined to cells and the Marion county district attorney's office is in vestigating the possibility of charges against them. McLdughlin Winner of Cinder Ti!t McLoughlin Junior high tracksters won all three di visions of a meet with Hed rick Friday afternoon and two ninth graders set city junior high records. - Ninth grade score was 80 to 38. Margin was 74 to 39 in the eighth grade contention and 59 to 18V4 for the sev enth graders. Mike Hood set a new Med ford standard of 5 feet 8Vfe inches in the high jump and Bob Rix a new time of 1:30.7 in the 660-yard run. Danny Sieg's lS-lO1. in the broad jump was a new Hedrick mark. ' , McLaughlin ninth was vic tor in 10 of the 14 events. Hood also was first in the high hurdles and Phil Hum phreys garnered both the 75 and 100-yard dashes. Stan Scheel won the javelin despite having stitches in spike wounds suffered last Tuesday. McCullough Cops Three Mike McCullough was win ner of three of the five events Hedrick claimed in the eighth grade competition. He took the two dashes and the broad jump. Jim Dexter was first in the high hurdles and javelin and Larry Plankenhorn first in the high jump and pole vault for Bulldogs. Plankenhorn shared vault honors with Craig Lawrence, also of Mc Loughlin. The Bulldogs won eight events. Mel Comstock was triple winner for McLoughlin in the seventh grade action with honors in both dashes and the shot put. .Keith Dalbec won the low hurdles and the 330 for the Mac team. Jim Bandy in the broad jump and Jerry Iverson in the pole vault were the lone Hornet firsts. Dean slammed out five safe raps, all for extra bases, in seven trips to the plate, driving in nine runs. Barr lim ited the Comets to one hit when the Tornado blanked Crater in the seven-inning op ener. McLaughlin held the Central Pointers to two bin- gles in the five-canto con cludes Triumph in the first tussle boosted Medford into a sec ond place tie with Ashland while Crater fell into fourth spot in the Southern Oregon conference standings. Second fracas did not count in the circuit. Grants Pass Leeads Grants Pass kept unblem ished leadership in the loop by topping Klamath Falls 7 to 4. Klamath won the king- I size second ruckus 5 to 4 in 10 innings. Cal Dean made the biggest noise with his bat in the con ference clash. He socked two triples and a home run, bring ing home seven scores. He doubled and three-baggered in the second mix. Barr yielded the lone hit to Crater in the first inning when .Thurman Striplin bang ed a low fly - to left field. After that the Medford hurl er struck out seven batsmen and walked two. There were two miscues in the Medford infield but they did no dam age and one was wiped off by a double play ending the game. Crater runners in the opener got as far as second base only on two occasions. Medford got three runs in the second inning of the counting tangle on three- basers by Lowell and Cal Dean, a single by George Ice and a sacrifice flyout by Ray Konopasek. Cal Dean Triples Cal Dean tripled again in the third panel. Dick Duran te, Ron Peery and Larry Brown singled. There were two walks and two errors. Ken Jensen and Perry singled and Ice hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. There were two bases on balls and two of four errors helped in bring ing in the six runs. Cal Dean's homer was slashed in the frame with two men on base. Bill Anhom came in to re lieve Wayne Allen on the hill for Crater in the fourth can to with one run in and two men on base. He got- off to a shaky start, giving up two bases on balls, the sacrifice and the homer but he was ef fective over the last two in nings. The Tornado double play came on Shortstop Cal Dean's backhand stag of a liner. He threw to his brother, Lowell, at first; to catch ' a runner off base. All Seven In Second Medford rang up all its second game runs in the sec ond inning. Cal Dean trip led and doubled. Frank Pe terson doubled and Lowell Dean singled. There were five errors and a catcher's inter ference in the inning. Crater tallied in the third session when Dennis Pfaf f walked and Wayne Allen two-baggered. McLaughlin walked four and whiffed five in his two- hitter. He was helped by a double play, shortstop to sec ond base to first, in the first inning and another runner was picked off. Striplin got the other hit for Crater and Jensen socked a single for Medford. Comet Pitcher Bob Fowler struck out three and walked two. Barr's one-hitter was his third this season. A woman accused of posing as a man for two years to pass forged checks began a seven year prison sentence today. Godih was awarded 99 out of a possible 100 points by each of the three ring offi cials in jabbing his way to a unanimous decision over Ba ker Friday night in their na tionally televised bout at the Capitol Arena. Under the 10-point must scoring system, referee Marty Gallagher favored the Alger ian,' 99-84; judge Julian Avt stone turned in a 99-85 card and judge Benny Alperstein voted 99-83. SKI CONDITIONS Skiing is reported poor for Sunday at Crater Lake National park by the ranger station Saturday evening. They said .41 of rain had fallen during Saturday and one inch of wet snow in the past 24 hours. The ground total of snow is 159 inches with a total of 553 so far this season, they said.
