OP) The McCredie Hot Spring resort hotel about eight miles east of here was destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon with loss estimated at $80,000 to $100, 000. George Owen, Eugene lum berman who owned the hotel, said it probably will be re built. The fire broke out shortly before 1 p.m., possibly from sparks from the kitchen range chimney. Owen's wife, a nephew and three employees were in the building at the time. The log and frame hotel had been an eastern Lane county landmark since it was built in 1914. April 16, 1958 TA Two Hearings On Zone Requests; Two Others Denied Two public hearings were called for zone change re quests at the Medford plan ning commission meeting on Monday night. Two other zone change requests were denied. A hearing was called for May 12 for a change of zone from class IA, single family, to class V, light industrial, for construction of a trailer park at 1059 Morrow rd. A hear ing for a change of zone re quest from class IA, single family, to class III A, limited commercial, for construction of a convalescent home at 2243 Barnett rd., was also set on May 12. A call for a hearing on a zone change on South Grape st. was denied by the commis sion because of several addi tional changes in the request required by the commission. A change of zone request for a section of land in the Cot tage home addition was also denied because of several ad ditional facts needed in the request. Both zone changes will be resubmitted, officials indicated. A request for relaxation of the set-back ordinance for the Medford school system in construction of a building in the high school area was ap proved by the commission for council action. A .preliminary approval of the unit number one of the Brookhurst subdivision was approved by the commission. No action was taken on ap proval of an amended plat of the Rogue Valley Heights subdivision. Other items by the commis sion saw action deferred on approval of the Pioneer sub division extension number two when the commission wanted more time to study the plans. Action on several proposed zone changes in the Berrydale area were held over until the May 12 meet ing. Refinery Explosions Cause $700,000 Loss Ardmore, Okla. tm A series of explosions at an oil refinery here Tuesday caused an estimated $100,000 dam age. No one was seriously hurt. The blasts occurred at the Ben Franklin oil refinery one and one-half miles northeast of here. They began when a tank of propane gas exploded.
