Medford, Oregon, TJiiinday, April 3, 1958 Grange Notes Formal presentation of a National Grange Certificate of Merit was made to Home Eco nomics Chairman Edna Saw yer by District HEC Chair man Edith Poe at the regular meetings of Upper Applegate Grange March 28. The visitor said the certificate was award ed In recognition of the work accomplished last year by Sister Sawyer, and her com mittee, and commended them on their achievements. The committee on candi dates reported favorably on the application of Alice D. Hibbert of Jacksonville, fol lowing which she was elected to membership in the order. Chaplain Mildred Redhead reporting for the relief com mittee, stated Sister Lena De Shazo is showing considerable improvement but is still con fined to Merced County hos pital in California. Sister De Shazo sustained critical in juries in an auto accident fol lowing the Christmas holi days. Brother Glen Williams was welcomed back after an ab sence while convalescing from major surgery. Ways and means committee chairman, Ethel West, turned in proceeds from' the last dance amounting to $60 to the Grange treasury, . and an nounced another dance will be held on Saturday, April 12, in the Grange hall. Announcement was a i s o made of a plastics party to be held in the hall May 5 under sponsorship of the home economics committee. Grange Secretary Irene Culy thanked members for their cooperation in paying dues promptly, thus enabling the Grange to qualify for a 100 per cent paid up member ship award. Sister Anna Scott, lecturer, presented Mr. and Mrs. Frank Perl of Medford, who showed colored slides they had taken portraying the 1958 Pasadena Rose parade, the Rose Bowl game, and scenes in Marine land. In the absence of Worthy Master M e n n o Bachmann, who has been in southern Califoraia for the past two weeks welcoming a first granddaughter.Overseer Pearl Byrne presided during the meeting. The evening concluded with refreshments and a social hour in the dining room which was decorated with Easter mo tifs and spring flowers. Sis ters Kathleen Scovell and Grace Buck and Brothers Hugh Scovell and Gerald Buck composed the serving committee. Grace N. Pearson, Publicity Chairman Central Point Grange The lecturer announces the program for Friday night to be given at 8 o'clock and in cludes numbers by Mr. Ca ruther's music class and Don ald Lacey's advanced speech class from Crater High school and the skit Grangers gave at the Lecturer's school at Ash land. At a recent meeting of the Community Projects commit tee it was decided one project to be the encouragement of youth advancement by giving front page publicity to every worthwhile accomplishment and discourage editors in too prominently publishing the wrongs they have committed. The committee feels our fine young people have not received as much credit as has been due them. The second project is to attempt having improvement done on the Central Point cemetery. Mrs. O. T. Wilson attended the State Grange Lecturer's school at Southern Oregon college Monday as a substi tute for Lecturer Lula Floux. Those who helped give the skit by Central Point, were Mrs. Effie Kurtz, Mrs. Walter Mang, Mrs. O. T. Wilson, Mrs. Lester Wertz, Eagle Point Grange, Mr. and Mrs. V. H. Croxton, Sams Valley Grange, and Mrs. B. W. Moffat, Roxy Ann Grange. The meeting of the Home Economics club was held March 26 at the home of Mrs. Harold Gebhard, on Kirkland rd., with desert luncheon at 1:30 pjn. President Mrs. Mar shall Weidman presided and advised the members to take advantage of the very worth while prizes offered in the National and State Grange sewing contests.
