Mr. Jor- don was born Nov. 16, 1876, in Michigan City, Ind. He moved with his parents as a child to Waynesboro, Va., where he lived as a boy, mov ing to Ashland in 1910. With his brother, Al Jordan, Ash land, he operated an electri cal appliance and contracting business. At the time of his death he was "the oldest elec trical dealer in Oregon. He married Annie Payne Oct. 10, 1920, in Ashland. He was a member of Masonic lodge, Ashland, since Feb 1921: Siskiyou chapter of Royal Arch Mason; Malta Commandery Knights Temp lar; Hillah temple, AAONMS; Royal Order Jesters; Elks lodge for 43 years, during which time he was a trustee for many years; and was voted a life membership in the Lions club in 1955. He retired Nov. 19, 1956, due to failing health. He is survived by his wid ow, Annie L. Jordan; two bro thers, Al Jordan, Ashland and Wilbur Jordan, New Castle, Calif.; and one sister, Mrs Bessie Corbin, Harrisonburg, Va. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at Litwiller's Mountain View chapel with the Rev, Ross Knotts, First Methodist church, Ashland, and the Ma sonic lodge in charge of the service. Active pallbearers will be from the Masonic order and honorary pallbear ers members of the Elks lodge. Contributions may be made to the heart fund. JUAN C. CANTU Ashland Juan C. Cantu, 51, of 349 East Main st., Ash land, died at his home March 31. The body will be sent to Corpus Christi. Texas, for funeral services and inter ment. Litwiller's Funeral home, Ashland, is in charge of local arrangements. ADDIE MAY STEVENS Private funeral services for Mrs. Addie May Stevens, 83, of Rogue River, who died Tuesday, will be held in the Conger-Morris funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Friday. The Rev. H. M. Shaw , will officiate. Committal will be in Siski you Memorial park. Mrs. Stevens was born on February 13,? 1875, in Noble county, Ohio. On March 31, 1894. in Elk. Ohio, she was married to William Stevens. She had lived in Rogue River for 26 years. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Earl Locke, Medford: three sons, Henry O. Stevens, Tulelake; Eugene T. Stevens, Grants Pass; and R. R. Stevens, Medford; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and one brother, John Neiswanger, Monroe, Ore. The body will lie in state until noon Friday. FLETCHER STOUT Fletcher Stout, formerly of Medford, died this morning in San Diego, Calif. The body is being returned to Medford and funeral arrangements will be announced by Conger-Morris, funeral directors. Veterans Released From Liability to Government More than 2,400 veterans have been released from liabil ity to the government on their GI home loans under a 1956 law,S. T. Brannock, officer in charge of the Medford vet erans administration office, reported today. The law provides that veter ans selling their GI homes may be released from liability to me government if the new purchaser meets proper credit requirements. Brannock said the new pur chaser, who need not be a veteran, must assume all of the veteran's obligations to the government on the GI loan under the law. Before enactment of the law, a veteran was released from GI home loan liability to the government only by pay ing off the loan in full him self or by having the new purchaser do so, or when VA considered it in the govern ment's best interests to re lease him. Government guaranty of the loan is not affected by releas ing the veteran from his lia bility. The new purchaser merely assumes the veterans liability, Brannock said. Release of the veteran from GI loan liability to the" govern men does not automatically re store his GI home loan en titlement. Churchill To Fly Back To Britain Roquebrune, France 1ft Sir Winston Churchill bids farewel today to the Riviera, where he successfully weath ered bouts of pneumonia and pleurisy. The 83-year-old former Prime Minister announced he would leave Nice airport to day with Lady Churchill and his staff aboard a commercial airliner for Britain. Churchill suffered his first attack of lung trouble on Feb. 18 and a relapse on March 22, but he was so fully recovered Wednesday nighrhe was host at a 3Va hour dinner for Presi dent Rene Coty of France. Police Alerted for Man in Sex Assault Toledo, Ore. (IP) Police In western Oregon were alerted today to be on the lookout for a man who sexually assaulted a six-year-old girl on a side road near here Wednesday afternoon. The girl was driven to near her home after the assault and released from the car, state police said. The man was described as large, from 40 to 50 years old, with dark brown hair. Newberg Boy To Get Treatment on Kidney Portland HP) Jimmie Rokowski, 10, Newberg, boarded a train here Wednes day for Boston where he will receive treatment for a kid ney ailment. Citizens of Newberg raised around $1,000 to finance the trip. The boy, who has had nephritis of the kidney since he was about 17 months old, will be treated at Massachu setts General hospital. Losses Numerous On Stock Market New York HP) Stocks took another drubbing today, with new lows again outnum bering new highs. Losses of a point or more were numerous in the main list as the market continued to move cautiously pending new anti-recession moves in Washington. Another sober ing element in the picture was the belief that April will show whether the recession is ending or going deeper. Some of the international oils gave ground following re ports that Jordan had nation alized the oil distribution bus iness. Production cutbacks up set the steels and nonferrous metals generally reflected un certainty over the price and Pendleton Mill Tells Wage Increase Pendleton (W -Harris Pine Mills here have an nounced wage increases rang ing from 5 to 10 cents an hour for some 500 employees in mill and forest operations. C. J. Magele, vice president and general manager, said the increases were effective as of April 1. Since the lumber market will not stand price increases at present, the firm is absorbing the additional costs, Magele said. Harris mills are now cutting on an overtime basis. Stackhouse Funeral Services Pending San Leandro, Calif. (IP) Funeral services were pend ing today for Glenn W. Stock house, night manager for the United Press in San Francisco and veteran war correspond ent. Stackhouse died at his home early Wednesday of a heart attack. He was 41. He had no history of heart trouble. The body was taken to the Grant D. Miller mortuary in Oakland. Stackhouse leaves his wife, Nadine, and a son, George, 3. NEW IRON PROCESS Chicago API Inland Steel Co. has announced it will construct an experimental pilot plant at its Indian Har bor,' Ind., works for smelting iron ore by a new process. Hjalmar W. Johnson, vice president in charge of steel manufacturing, said the new technique was developed dur ing the last several years in Inland's research laboratories, but he declined to disclose de tails of the process.
