Obituaries BERT WILLIAM JEWELL Bert William Jewell, 74, of route 1, box 52 A, Rogue Riv er, died Feb. 27 in Grants Pass following a short illness. He was born Oct. 13, 1873 in Kansas and was a resident of Rogue River for five years. He is m survived by his widow, Eva Jewell; daughter, Mrs. Robert L. Stephens, both of Rogue River; and sister, Miss Gertrude Jewell, Al bany, Ore. Funeral arrangements will be announced by L. B. Hall Funeral home, Grants Pass. NOW ME RCHANTS LUNCHES From AT Yemen Will Join Arab Republic Cairo (H Yemenite Crown Prince Seif al-Islam El Badr announced formally today that his country has decided to join the United Arab Re public. El Badr's announcement, issued shortly after his arriv al by air from Yemen, con firmed reports that have cir culated here ever since the union of Egypt and Syria was first proclaimed. The Crown Prince said Ye men's Priest-King Ahmed has authorized him to sign an agreement adding the sun baked Red Sea state to the union. The addition of Yemen to the grouping would increase its membership to three states, none of which adjoins any of the others. Israel and Jordan separate Egypt from Syria and Saudi Arabia sep arates Yemen from Egypt. London (IP) J. E. S. Simon, financial secretary to the Treasury, was startled Thurs day to hear shouts of "Re sign! Resign:" when he told Commons it was government policy "to reduce the stand ard of living." Thfc said Harvey's wife, Mrs. Ethel Harvey, 70, suf fered minor injuries. Harvey apparently failed to see a ve hicle traveling south in front of him slow down to make a Film Industry Mourns Death of Harry Cohn Hollywood OF) The f:lm I industry was in mourning to-1 day for Columbia Pictures! President Harry Cohn. His death wrote a ciner-i ama-sized "The End" to an era which saw the 66-year-old starmaker the last of the one-man studio rulers. Cohn's body will be flown to Los Angeles today from Phoenix, Ariz., where he was stricken with a heart attack and died en route to a hos pital.
